Did you get a line on a camper yet? Are winter roads an issue?

nothing yet. i check for used campers almost daily. traffic is starting to pick up a little and folks are posting more so i think something will come up soon. Trade shows are happening now so this is the time that folks start trading in for larger rigs. Hoping something will turn up at that time. A couple of the dealers I've talked to said that they usually see a lot of truck campers turned in when folks trade in for class C motorhomes in Feb/Mar so I'm holding out for that.

I want to get out to my friend's cabin, but these sub-zero spells make me worry something might go wrong at the house and Kristi would be stuck...cell coverage is real sketchy out there. :notsure:

If you want to get away from the winter cold for a couple weeks there's a big show in Quartzsite, Az this time of year. I guess a few do their trade-ins there. Big warning, it's a small town that's mostly inhabited by old folks and a bit of a circus. I'm sure it's not at the top of your list...kinda like wanting to slam your fingers in a metal security door.

maybe wise to stay in town until it warms up a bit

bit too far to go for me. i did find a camper in Portland OR but decided this wasn't the time of year to be taking a major road trip so...

older folks aren't usually the ones I have an issue with..unless they're holding up the check in line at camp bellowing about not understanding why they need reservations for their class a, that they didn't need reservations the last time they were here (in the 1960's). then, that irritates me. otherwise the older campers are great, polite folks.
its the younger people and families who have never camped before in their life who have no clue what they're doing and have no regard for the rules that bug the crap out of me.

We don't do reservations but all the rest applys. Especially when they think ignorance is a defense.

camper related issues that I've come across in the last 5 years or so are almost all younger folks. College kids who are traveling without parents for the first time and think its appropriate to have a kegger in the middle of camp with a bonfire until 3am, leaving food and trash all over when they finally do go to bed. kids running wild through my campsite and nearly falling into my firepit because they're not paying attention. Kids thinking its funny to lock the outhouse doors when no one is inside to unlock them. The 2 overland bound 4runners from CA who left about 5K in gear including a dometic fridge in an open top trailer and got pissed when the camp staff confiscated everything because it wasn't stored according to bear country rules...but it was inside the trailer they said... the girl who dropped her pants in front of two or three families and myself so that she could pee on all 4 tires of her car before going to bed. not sure why she felt that was necessary.
Camped next to a rave/party on FS land year before last. Camped up there many times without issue and haven't been back since. About 10PM a whole string of cars starts up the road, about 25 or 30 cars total in about 30 minutes. They fired up a generator and DJ system - lights and all. Partied from 11PM to 4AM. I had cell service and called the sheriff, FS rangers and NPS rangers to try to get someone up there to break it up. No one came. Guess the possibility of a dozen or more drunk drivers on the roads wasn't enough to interest them. I was up about 8AM to get on with my day, drove up and sat in the middle of the road in front of their camp and laid on the horn for a good two minutes before I took off. Called the sheriff's office to complain that no one came, told them they should be ashamed of themselves.

No, im too old and had my chances when i was younger,I was just too wild and dumb to do it.youngins with potential go back and they take classes at vo-tech(trade school) for their welding, machineing certificates etc...but they could have picked alot of people so i was humbled when Rob asked me..The guy thats going out maintains the machines that i ran for 15yrs before moving to what i run now ,so its a good fit as i know them inside and out.I get alot of OT from Rob rebuilding sub assemblys for that equipment and work my ass off.If he gives someone a chance and they take it as play time they never get invited back...
