I miss how easy it was to reach stuff in the bed when it was stock.

I have Fox 2.5 IFP coilovers, Camburg UCAs, Fox 2.0 shocks with remote reservoirs and a 3 leaf progressive AAL.

No pics yet, but I’ll have some soon.

Probably b/c photos were taken last year or renewal hasn't taken place? It's either yellow for 2020 or red for 2021.

whatever you do, just don’t skip leg day.... 285’s on a DCLB looks small still..... go 35’s and trim. You gotta pay to play.

No lift in my future for my 2019 OR. I don't do a great deal of off road driving... mainly just getting to remote place like hunting and fishing. I may do a Taco lean spacer as I'm a little low on the front driver's side. Still debating this as I know it's a little low, but can't really tell unless I measure. I will be upgrading one tire size when my OEM's wear out. Either 265-75-16 or 265-70-17. These should fit just fine without a lift.

Nope, it's not the color, it's the type of sticker. In Cali on a personalized commercial plate it should be a metal tab instead of a sticker, otherwise DPT can't tell if it's a commercial or a regular plate and can issue a ticket or even tow if parked in a commercial zone, just an FYI.

I have been living in Cali for all my life and never paid attention. My neighbor has Tundra with legacy black personalized plate and has a sticker just like any other car. hmm...

Regular sticker will work fine until you park in a commercial zone and a rookie or a lazy DPT officer come along. I also do this for a living, so... better be safe than sorry ;)

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Nope, no lift kit, don't need one. On my 4th 4x4 in the last 40 years, none were lifted. My 2016 TRD Off Road, is used 40% off road, 60% pavement. Only changes from stock are a rack for my boat, toolbox for gear, and some BF Goodrich AT's KO2s. My typical off road, is solo remote trips, hundreds of miles in to the British Columbia mountains, about 30 fishing trips between May and October each year. All for sport fishing.

On 90% of my trips I never see another truck or human, as I am way off the beaten path. Then no fishing competition. Pretty bad roads, so the other 4x4 fisherman stay away.

If I lift my truck, I will be too high for the overhead tree canopy on the small trails I have to drive to get to the remote fishing lakes in BC.

I have several lakes I can fish all season, and never see another truck or human even at peak fishing season. If you don't mind shite roads that knock your chiclets out, it can't be beat. The quiet and scenery, and fishing, is unbelievable. Tons of wildlife. Large male grizzly, mother black bear with 2 cubs, and lots of moose and deer on the trail for some hike-in lakes I did in June. No groomed trails, just bushwhacking. That was Thuya Lakes in BC, check it out if you like hike-in fishing with over 25 hike-in lakes to choose from. Never saw another fisherman or truck in a week up there.

Yeah, I don't get lifting a truck for show. Why buy a truck if you are not going to use it as a truck? A lot of cash outlay for a look. If I was not an outdoorsman, I would not own a truck. I had a 4 year stretch where I could not get out to the bush due to work. Sold my truck, bought a car. Was great to drive. Now that I am retired (62 years young now...), I am back to a truck and spend all of my free time in the bush. My stock Taco gets me wherever I need to go. However, all the shocks are shot and leaking now because of all the washboard roads. Took only 15,000 miles to trash them, in process of replacing all and front coils.

Now if you spend a lot of time off roading in a club or group or such, tackling rock faces and mud and such, get a lift kit, you need it there. Here, if the road is so bad that any amount of bumper dragging won't get me to the lake, then best to stay off that road anyway when going solo remote. No fun being 150 miles off road, with a broken down truck and no buddy to help you out. A lot of walking, which I have had to do and don't care to repeat.

Sounds like you realize you need a suspension upgrade and not just replacements, since you've blown the stock in 15,000 miles. These stock Toyota's are very capable but not every "lift" has to be a liability. Your driving habits/adventures sound like the perfect excuse for upgraded suspension components and undercarriage protection upgrades. Why not better protect critical drivetrain components and add a little clearance to help avoid getting stranded in the back country. I doubt a couple inches in total height would be a bigger impediment than the benefit of more ground clearance on rugged back roads. What suspension are you planning on putting under the truck? Are you going to venture into the rebuildable coilover realm? Stock Trd Pro suspension may be a good option...

Buy once cry once... on my 2.5" lift rides amazing even better on the desert. On 265's... was planning on eventually 285's when these wear out but honestly like this look. Wife complained a little but its not her truck ;] No regrets, always loved modifying my cars and this is my first lifted truck

No rebuildables. Just heavy duty shocks and new coils up front. I really don't need a lift, and don't need the hassles that come with it. I would rather just replace the shocks every couple of years as my driving warrants. Anything front end parts that are not tight will be replaced, but not upgraded.

In my driving, if I have a lift and am tempted to go over even worse roads, that just puts me in more danger as I am on solo remote trips. I have had a 4x4 for most of the last 35 years and deep in the bush all that time, several hundred trips.

When the roads are that bad, better judgement tells me to turn around. When younger I did what most do, and pushed it more than I should, taking chances. Once, 8 hours to build a 100 foot long road of trees to drive out on using my chainsaw. Not a fun day. Other experiences like that too. However, never an issue with my trucks breaking down, as the 4x4 roads I am driving are 5mph top speed, 4-low, so just crawling along. Not flying over stuff, would never show off when on my own far off road.

Most of the trucks I see broken down off road, are trucks with lift kits, suspension upgrades and so on. Maybe driver inexperience, or having all the upgrades makes some feel invincible and they push it harder. When you see stock trucks far off road, they are driving slow and safe. When I do see trucks with all the upgrades, they are often the ones pushing it really hard.

Interesting this point -- In all of my hundreds of trips across BC, I never see suspension upgraded trucks deep in the bush, only stock 4x4s, guys out hunting, fishing, etc. The off road warriors have different spots they drive and usually a lot closer to civilization.

No regrets here. If I had to commute a good distance to work, I might not have lifted (currently getting 12-13 city/14-15 highway mpgs). But with the little distance I drive (about 5k miles a year), it's a non-issue. Love the look of my lifted truck and get questions/compliments often.

    I beg to differ.

you buy once, cry once. Upgrades are for better traction, ride comfort, and lifts are for getting over things easily and also in your case maybe a winch or max tracs wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Exactly. I have owned four 4x4's now, driven over 35 years with them. Several hundred remote trips into the BC backcountry. Never needed a lift and such. If the road is so bad that I am doubting my ability to make it, then best to use some brains and take a different path. If I have all those other upgrades making me think I can make it, that is not a good thing when I am on my own and a hundred miles into the bush. I have a ton of experience than most at solo remote trips. Have been doing this all my life, over 100 lakes fished in BC now.

Plus I commercial trolled for salmon, long lined for halibut, up and down the entire BC coast from just south of Alaska all the way to the south end of Vancouver Island. Open waters, 80mph storms, 30 foot seas, and did that for 16 years working on several boats. Just can't seem to get enough fishing no matter how hard I try. :)

Speaking of which, a very tragic accident just recently up in Alaska. A crab boat went down, 2 guys survived, and I think there were 5 who died. I really feel for them and their families. It can be very scary when you are deep at sea in a storm, and no one else for a hundred miles. Have had many close calls over the years, so I know what those poor guys were experiencing, just horrible.

Yeah, I love the quiet when far away. Don't want to hear any other trucks, don't want a noisy muffler, or a truck that lifted just makes it harder to load my boat on the roof and load/unload my gear. Some days I will fish 3 small lakes, so the boat is on and off the roof 6 times in a day. Don't need any extra back strain. When I talk about tree canopy, yes that is a constant issue here. Even with a stock truck, I have had many roads I could not go down as the overhang was so low on these roads no one else is driving. The roof on my Taco already has 50 long scratches the run the entire length of the roof.

Do you mind if I ask what your average mpg is? I have an identical setup on my '16 and my FE is deplorable even for a pickup.
