Fragile Windshield Glass on 2020 DCSB OR

The windshield is not any more fragile than any other vehicle. You just had bad luck bud. Every single car forum has members that think their windshield is fragile. It's glass. Making it out of steel would not be smart.
Also I had put around 80K on my Tacoma. Original glass. No cracks. There are a lot more people with my experiences than yours.

 

Not arguing, but what about in the case where people go decades with no change in variables other than the change in vehicle, and now they've blown through 2-3 OEM glasses?

 

No not a deflector, I'm saying cover your entire windshield in plexiglass. You could also use metal mesh over the windshield, go for that "Mad Max" look.. It was a joke. Hit rocks at speed, modern windshields seem to crack or chip. I remember on older SUVs/Trucks I've hit flying rocks on the highway and thinking it was going to come through the windshield, but didn't even leave a mark. I think someone else eluded to modern cars are thinner glass likely weight/cost savings.

 

Exactly. I don't follow too closely, and I'm doing the same daily commute with this vehicle that I was doing with my 2018. Driving habits aren't the problem here.

 

Luck. I went through three windshields on a 4Runner within months. Bad luck because I drove those for seven years and around 300K miles with no other instance than that short period.

 

my wifes honda accord has cheap glass. weve already replaced it 3times in a year

and its showing up on car complaints for 2018s

 

I just had my 2020 windshield replaced at 700miles. Im at 2000 miles now and its all pitted. Safelite charged my insurance $780 for the glass replacement

It must be Arizona because i had to replace my Jeeps windshields 3-5 times a year too

AND the dealer charges $300 to adjust the safety sensors meaning glass replacement is over $1000 now

 

I have full glass coverage with my insurance company (USAA). Zero deductible.

 

Nascar/nastruck windshield tear aways.

 

At least there is taht! I know its not the point but still!

 

I don't follow too closely. Same truck (just 2 years newer), same driving habits, same commute.

 

Do you hear a lot of rocks hitting your windshield on average when you drive though?

Trying to figure out if your chips are caused by blowing sand or by rocks flung up by other cars. I very rarely hear anything of concern hitting my windshield, so it makes sense that I don't have any chips/cracks. I think much of it is location and driving style dependant, and yes this glass is likely more susceptible to damage due to being thin or of lesser quality.

 

One thing i forgot to mention, speedy glass replaced my original windshield. I have no issues with leakage or noise, its just like the original one. I wouldnt worry about it never being the same.

They did leave some small black marks of the adhesive they used on my fenders though, was not thrilled as i only had like 3k miles.

 

Blowing sand isn't going cause a divot with spreading cracks. I've heard every single one that's caused damage hit the glass.

I would disagree with that. Both times i got my rockchips, there was nobody in front of me.



Rocks came from the lane beside me both times, i saw it.

I find if the glass is the same but the travel is what has changed. more freeway driving = higher rate of windshield damage

 

I took a lot of road trips in my 2007 ranger and never had issues with rocks. I heard them hit my windshield but nothing happened.

I think most of new vehicles nowdays got brittle/fragile glass.
