Only other thing I can think of is a bad ground. Do you have any aftermarket lighting wired into your factory wiring? I’ve seen goofy things happen all around from that.

I knew a guy that didn’t have all of the spring tension relived and had a ratcheting end wrench and top hat nut go flying across the shop...

Is it an LSD rear from a sport? Got a front to go along with it? :D

No. It’s actually out of a GX470. And I do have a front also but plan on using that one day. Both are stock 3.73 gearing

Roger that, I’ve been looking around here and there to acquire a set so I can rebuild/regear them while keeping the truck mobile ;)

The only difference is the stud arrangement is different plus cut out for the elocker

the “8.4” is still an 8” ring gear. Just a different bolt pattern. Plus it has the trusses/bolt caps? Over the ring gear that the elocker doesn’t have.

Exactly. Not quite sure where the 8.4 name originally came from, but it's what everyone knows it as, but don't realize it's still an 8" ring gear and will argue till they're blue in the face that it's bigger than the elocker r&p.

@Usethe2nd The elocker and all 79-2004 pickup/t4r 8" diffs have 10 bolts on the ring gear and the 2005+ "8.4"/aka open/non-elocker has 12 bolts on the ring gear. Carriers are different throughout the 36yrs in relation to bearings etc.. but are 99% the same and interchangeable. 79-85 axles are narrower, 86+ are wider with toyotas addition of ifs.

Scroll to the bottom here for Tacoma 8.4 and elocker diffs specifically, or start at the top for all things Toyota diff related.

Oh also, is having brake drums turned still a thing? Or are they throw aways and cheaper to just get new ones?

Front and Rear Locked, 35’s, Chevy 63” swap, Fox Suspension and a bunch of other shit too long to list.
A couple weeks ago I was getting my parts a pads and rotors to do my fronts and asked the guy at the service counter about the rears. He said he’s probably sold 3-4 sets of drums in 15 years. He told me they are basically good for the life of the vehicle. If I remember right they were around $100 for oem drums.

Him and I speak the same language. :anonymous: :cool::bananadance:

Instead of a Cadillac in the driveway on stands, I've got a Lexus. :bananadead:

    I'm not a Chevy 5.3 fan. :D

Got your gear swap done yet? Why didn't you just park the Tacoma and drive your Jetta? I'm half way done.. :boink:
