I don't think I ever got back to you on the fan bracket. But it fixed my noise issue I was having. So it was definitely the bearing going bad

I would not be surprised if mine is going out. I feel I am still chasing a noise, I need to remove all the belts to diagnose. Especially since my PS pump is fixed now.

That's exactly what I did, if you find it is the noise you don't have to remove the timing cover or drop your radiator. Just takes a little finagling to get around some things but it's possible

I must have missed it, what noise are we talking about here? Need to address a few issues with my truck as well.

Put the hood back on after chasing down a wiring short in the engine harness. 210 miles trouble free!! Starts every time, runs pretty good. Got 20.2 mpg on last fill up.

have to figure out a rough idle issue, along with low power at lower rpm’s.

I have new plugs to put in it, and plan to put a new set of plug wires, along with a new valve cover gasket. Gonna clean the valve cover up really good and may even paint it.

Other issue I am chasing down is why the stereo doesn’t always come on like it is supposed to. It’s a Dual brand touch screen from Walmart. Sometimes it works perfect, other times I have to unplug/replug it to get it to work right.

I really like the stereo cause it sounds good and was only $70 and fits excellent.

I still have to install the amp and will be building a box for 2 15’s or 18’s in the coming months. I would like to have the 18’s. Won’t take a lot of power to have a good bass hit with those compared to 10’s or 12’s.

oh, I also have to fish out one of the heat and air control bulb plugs. It fell behind and I can’t quite get ahold of it.

anyone know what size bulbs it takes?

hope everyone has a good day/weekend.

This video shows the noise mine was making, I tracked it down to the fan pulley bracket bearing and plan on replacing it tomorrow, I assumed I would have to remove the timing cover but according to JOSHCOOK that isn’t necessary, which is a good thing. I bought the new Aisin bracket from Rockauto.

Here’s the new bracket. $116.00 with standard Fedex shipping and the TW discount from Rockauto.

especially since I don’t have the money for a wrecker bill!!

but don’t worry, there is a VERY VERY strong likelihood of it getting an LS swap this coming winter. Which means the 2.4 and automatic trans and rear end will be up for sale when I get ready to do start the tear down.

it still runs good and trans shifts perfectly. After all, they only have 306,900 miles on them!!

It was a definte squeal, sounded similar to when the idler pulley is going. Except I don't have my AC belt connected, so I took off all of my belts and the noise went away. Installed the new bracket and the noise is gone.

It is similar to that but a little less "scratchy" and more of a whirring noise?? And it was constant, I could hear it all the time until the engine got around 3k RPM (engine noise hid the other noise)

Edit: You do have to remove the timing cover (well I did) but you just have to loosen that clamp on the radiator hose and move it down a little. You'll lose a little bit of coolant but it's possible, just takes some things to get out of the way

Wait there is a rockauto TW coupon? I'll be needing that

...We had three stops planned here, but our first stop along this route was not for a cinder cone at all - rather, it was for a lava tube that's been made accessible for exploration with the installation of a metal ladder that ushers curious hikers down into the depths of the earth...

Mojave Rd is a great trip, done it twice now (3 days each time), so much to see out there.

Ok guys heres what i did, took the heads off my old tacoma to get rebuilt before we put them on my buddies 4 runner

Heres the problem, the 10mm bolt you put in the cam gears to keep the cams aligned bent under the torsion of the spring in there... is that going to be a major problem

Most definitely lol, both times we've gone the 3 days felt like we were rushing through. Had to be selective with what we stopped to look at, but we were doing the whole 150 mile stretch of the Mojave Rd both times. You can blast through it in a day but stopping to camp and sight see along the trail is the best way if at all possible.

There are tons of abandoned mining operations and homes/ranches from the early 20th century, couple old military forts along the way too. The salt flat/dry lake bed portion is definitely worth checking out as long as it hasn't rained recently. The lava tubes of course are really cool too, thats probably the most touristy landmark of the trail though since its closer to the highway. The mines and old homes/ranches are much more remote.

Sounds like an awesome trip, DVNP is something I haven't done yet and really want to. Definitely more scenic than Mojave. Joshua Tree is incredible, the best wheeling around there is on the outskirts of the park in the vast BLM land area
