What is the correct adapter to use for Sirius XM>Stock antenna?

Hi everyone,

I've been living in an adapter hell for the last week. I'm trying to hook my SiriusXM to my stock sharkfin antenna. I first bought the Maestro Acc-SAT-TO2 adapter pack:

$20 Maestro HRN-ANT-SAT1 FAKRA to Aftermarket SMB Satellite Radio Antenna Adaptor

What are you trying to do?

 

This gets you to Motorola if that is your goal. This plugs in the radio then to a “typical” car antenna cable. You don’t say what you are trying to do.

Sirius sucks, so if you are trying to add it to your truck you are wasting your money. The reception sucks (antennas won’t help) and the programming is not dynamic nor ad free, and the compression ratios on the music make it flat.

That is not the xm connector, it should be a black connector with a rounded edge. It is the black one in this picture from another thread here. Does your radio have the APPS button on the left side? If not then you do not have XM from the factory. My 19 SR did not have an XM antenna so I ran my own and connected it to the Premium radio I bought from a member here.

Do you have the APPS button on the left side of your stock radio?

 

I do not. I just have the base version of the head unit which I replaced with a Kenwood. I didn't see any black connector like the one in the picture when I was working on it

 

Then you do not have XM in your stock antenna. You will need to run your own antenna. I was in the same boat, it's a pain.

That large white connector in your first post. It's for FM/AM only unfortunately.

 

Did you wire an xm cable and somehow attach it to the shark fit and remove the FM/AM?

 

I don’t think you have that wire. Pull the roof liner at the back so you can check if it is wired. If not, I’d give up as it’s a pain in the ass mod for zero gain. Tacos audio suck. I didn’t know that until I factory ordered their top of the line. XM is a terrible service. I didn’t know that until I’d paid and was credited for a year of service. I have thrown away my XM receiver. No perfect option. Aftermarket is best but with a sunk cost in factory radio it’s a pricey blunder. Onboard FM is best fidelity if you can stick a HD station, but that is difficult with the poor performance of a shark fin, which looks cool but is reminiscent of 1970s technology. Streaming from cellphone requires using the phone while driving no matter how good you are planning ahead, and of course it has a low fidelity compression.

If you still want XM, run a aftermarket antenna, I’d suggest taping it to the dashboard as I’d predict you tire of the service long before you are over the PIA of pulling your headliner, fixing the roof leaks and fishing the cable.

However if you truly want to go that route, I have a write up in my build thread on how to get access to the back of the headliner in a DC in my build thread. Turn phone sideways tap my lighting link and scroll to the bullet on scene lighting. From there fish to passenger side, avoid airbags, and down APillar. Don’t pull or kink the liner.

 

I actually went all out and used a OEM Ford F150 antenna and drilled another hole in the roof roughly above where the passenger sits. The shark fin still runs the AM/FM.

 

SiriusXM does not suck have no idea what you were listening to but I’ve had Sirius for the last 7 years and it is light years better then anything else. All you need to do when your bill is due is complain about how bad the service is and it’s too expensive and they drop the price like a rock. I pay less then a $100 a year for their best service. I can listen to pretty much any music ever made anytime I want and the sound quality on my premium JBL system is awesome so I don’t see how that sucks.
