Best way to paint frame (paint is coming off)

So I'm pretty OCD anal about my frame and I was about to fluid film it the other day when I noticed some paint was already coming off my frame. What's the best way to paint it, I thought about spraying rustoleum but I'm ocd about the overspray on to the body underneath the truck (I could cover it up I suppose) or do you guys brush paint it?

 

Wire brush, brake cleaner, POR-15 Topcoat

 

You live in socal, you can color it with a sharpie and it will be fine. But if you really want there is heat resistant spray paint.

 

Brush on a little rustoleum and call it good.

Fluid film in SoCal?

 

If you're that anal about it, the problem you're going to run into is after correcting that little patch the part you painted won't match the rest of the frame.

So the only solution is to remove the entire frame, bead blast it, paint it in a booth, then reinstall. No big deal right?

Also why the hell are you messing around with fluid film in Southern California? Last thing I want to do is cover my shit in oil if it doesn't need it.

 

Ya I dont know why your even bothering with Fluid Film in CA, I didnt when I was in AZ, truck looked great. Unless your messing around in the ocean / beach.

Yup. My truck has a combo of CRC and fluid film on it. I usually look like a coal miner by the time Im done doing any work underneath. Sucks, but this former VA truck had to have it.

 

My brother lives near the coast in CA and his frame is trashed, way worse than a lot of the "bad" ones I have seen posted here. There is a misconception that CA = good frames. Not always the case. If you are coastal, in Northern CA anyway, you are fucked.

 

Hence my mentioning the ocean, sand, etc. But I spent a good deal of time in AZ and I would imagine the southern parts of CA or areas like near Edwards you wouldn't have a problem. Of course if you go up the mountains where they use salt / brine, or drive along the coast, beach, in the water ya your frame is gonna need it, but otherwise in that climate, likely not.

 

Even then a handful of trips up a brined road every year isnt gonna hurt. Just spray it off with a hose. Its the trucks that are driven on salted roads for 40% or more of the year that get rotted out mainly.

 

Won't the bare metal (attached pic) rust no matter what? Unless painted over obviously.

 

Depends, probably but it will be minimal and surface rust, its not gonna start eating away at the integrity of the frame like us salt belt peoples. I've already done fluid film twice this winter on mine

I didn't even know what fluid film was until joining Tacomaworld.

 

what about removing frame, replicating it to stainless steel, painting it, and then reinstalling that?
