    I'm Jeff, and just today I bought a 2005 4x4 Tacoma SR5, 6 speed manual. This is my first Toyota.

    So far, so good.

    105k miles.

    Didn't check the frame. Didn't even think about it.
    Do you care to elaborate?

    Your truck has lower miles than my 2010 Taco (I've got like 109,126 miles as of this post I believe?)!

    As for the frames, that's something everyone should carefully inspect before buying a used Tacoma... o_O

    Unfortunately, Tacomas are well known for their frames rotting out. Many of the early 1st Gens (1995-1997) were bought back and crushed; I believe Toyota started replacing frames at cost to them in later 1st Gen (2001-2004) models; I think the 1998-2000 models (which had a 3rd Gen T4R front end instead of the unique 1995-1996 front end) were also bought back and crushed :(

    2nd Gen (2005-2015) Tacomas have unfortunately not been immune this scourge. Some owners either take really good care of their frames or just get lucky (for me, it was a combination of both) and their frames don't rot out. My truck was part of one of the more recent recalls, but the dealer found no rust and simply rustproofed the frame with this gooey black coating free of charge; That was over two years ago and my frame seems to be holding up fine.

    As far as I know, Toyota is still doing frame replacements on 2nd Gens and even a few later 1st Gens. If the frame on a 1995-2000 Taco rots out now, I believe the owner might be SOL in terms of legal recourse. I've even heard talk that the 3rd Gen (2016-present) Tacos are having frame issues!

    @jrice4760

    I don't mean to scare you...

    At only 105K miles, I'd say your truck was pretty well cared for; I'm guessing that if has the original frame, it's immaculate.

    You can run the VIN through this online database (I forget what it's called; Another member can definitely help you) and see if your frame has been replaced; If it hasn't been replaced, I believe it can tell you if your truck is eligible for a frame replacement. If your truck does require a new frame, Toyota will pay for all parts and labor at any authorized dealer. Again though, I don't think your truck's frame is in bad condition based on the low miles. Do you have any pics of your truck?
