first case of trail rash

I always wonder the mindset of those that buy something brand new designed for street use and take it off road and tear it up. I'm curious if these were the same kids that would get a box of crayons and start breaking them right out of the box.

THEN we get to driving skills.

And weather conditions.

Pretty much none of which have to do with actual trail driving....well maybe. We'll need to get the evidence and subpoena witnesses. But this all needs to be firmed up before I get my money back from TW for poor thread title selection.

It's Friday.

 

I eat them right out of the box, also went off roading with less than 1000 miles. BUT I have a $250 deductible and an insurance agency that doesn't forbid Offroad use.

 

So I say fix it (especially the bare metal area)... but the extend to which you fix it or just cover bare metal depends on if you plan on doing something like this again.

Would hate to pay $2,500 to make it perfect again just to get more damage on a later trail.

Up to you though man, I feel your pain! Handling it a lot better than I would.

 

I bought my truck to wheel in, just like I bought my Vette to track. Purpose built machines , bought for what they were built for. I hate garage ornaments. Wheel on bro !!!! PS............. Your deductible is absolutely insane ! Bad bad choice to save a few bucks

Yes, but I have found them quite good I’m the snow compared to anything I’ve had before.

 

Just get a beater if you want to bang it off trees. That's thousands in avoidable damage to you sweet new rig.

Exactly. If it the damage was less or the truck older, I would probably just paint over the scars and drive it, but this amount of damage I think I need to fix while I have insurance. The chances of me damaging a vehicle this bad again are low.

 

I choose a high deductible to get a lower rate. As a rule of thumb I insure myself only for catastrophes. If I can afford a $30k truck, I should be able to afford a $2500 repair. Hell, I spent $1000 on my rock sliders.

Good call. And maybe consider a deductible lower than $2500 in the near future. Perhaps something like $500? It probably won't change your premiums that much.

There's no point in carrying insurance that will never benefit you because you're paying such a ridiculous deductible to fix anything.

 

Ah, so you are one of those. "it said water resistant, what do you mean it isn't a submarine?". It is called marketing. You are driving a truck that was designed to be used on paved roads in a civilized world.

Don't get me wrong, it is your money and you can do with it as you wish, but for me it seems foolish spending $35k on something then destroying it just because it has a marketing label. I mean the label "off road" doesn't make it equal to a trail buggy. For me better economic sense tell me to buy something that fits the purpose and not succumb to marketing ploys. Your results may vary.

 

I don't think he meant to "destroy" his new truck. You can take the easiest of green trails and then all of a sudden it starts raining. Your easy green trail has just now turned into a difficult black trail. Shit happens to even the best of drivers out there. Sometimes you take a good line, only to slide off into a bad line. What I don't get is someone who buys a capable 4x4 truck and it never seeing dirt...

 

That $2,500 deductible could buy you an off-road beater/toy to bounce off trees.
