I have a 07 tacoma, when I put it on Low4x4 and I turn right or left, my steering and all the direction shake a lot and doesn't seems to like it at all... Is it normal ? I think my rear Diff is allways lock ,it's doing like my old Suzuki Sidekick that I have weld the rear diff for more fun and traction ... Can you clarify my idea ?? newbie...:p

4 wheel drive always understeers, and 4lo is going to be worse than 4hi. Gravel is relatively high traction surface as "off road" surfaces go. Sounds normal, especially if you're turning to full lock.

Just to make sure the locker isn't engaged, try cycling it and check your gauge cluster icons to see if it goes on and off.

I highly doubt the locker is stuck on all the time...if so, steering would be difficulty in two high on pavement and you'd be *shredding* your rear tires.

In 4lo or 4hi ....you don't want to make sharp turns, it puts too much stress on the CV joints.

Each situation/terrain is different and the steering will act differently in higher traction areas (pavement, dirt) versus lower traction areas (mud, ice). You just have to learn your limits for each situation. If you make turns & apply the gas at the same time (throttle through the turn) is where you'll have most problems and it'll vary 'how tight' of a turn you can make before the truck starts hopping, bucking, or won't move at all. Don't force it!!!

If your tires can't turn easily because traction is too high, then stay in 2WD.

Once tires slip from snow, mud, ice, rain, sand on or off the road then 4WD High should be engaged... steering will not be a problem if you are moving.

If you are not driving, but instead trying to move your truck into a parking spot, for example... even off road, 4WD is difficult because the front ane rear tires are locked together at the transfer case... return to 2WD for tight turning into a parking spot.

4WD LOW is for severe poor traction, like deep snow, deep mud, steep grades, slow crawling with maximum power.

The rear locker is the traction device of last choice... Only use it to get out of a stuck or for very poor traction hill climbs. The RR Locker light will go from blinking to solid when it is engaged (just like the 4WD lights do).

I don't think 4LO is suitable for severe poor traction, but more for obligatory slow crawling situations. In low traction situations I want more control over wheel spinning so 4HI. Both 4LO is more fun :)

Great advice! I also make wider turns in 4WD...especeally 4LO. Plan your turns ahead of time!

...If you have a TRD Offroad 2nd Gen Tacoma, you have a locking rear diff and should have a switch in the dash.

If you don't have a switch in the dash...something's fishy. Hope you didn't get caught purchasing an SR5 that just had offroad stickers slapped on it...

Sounds like the Sport model if the bumpers are painted. Are your door handles painted and does the hood have a scoop? Is the front grill chrome or painted? All 2nd Generation Offroad Models have the rear locker.

Sounds more like a TRD Sport with the mechanical LSD.

Look at your rear differential. Does it have a sticker on it that says something like "LSD oil only"?? (can't remember exactly what it says)

    Bingo!!

The mechanical LSD is better than an open diff. I love mine for winter driving.

Well, glad he figured it out... Sport has the fake hood scoop, first indicator! Next Toyota, get the Off Road so you have increased traction abilities!
