I stopped reading this thread at $2500 deductible. Shiiiiiiitttttttt! I didn't even know that was possible. At that high your only protecting the interest of the finance company not yours.

Seriously, might as well make a claim to get a brand new truck fixed.

That looks like fun, but I’d have to pay to park it somewhere at about $100-$200 a month. (I live in the city.) I have given a lot of consideration to buying a cheap Jeep instead of upgrading from the SR5 to the TRD OR and adding after-market parts.

AHH,...the key phrase by the OP is "while I have insurance" Good luck on keeping insurance if you keep this up.

Preach man, i was with USAA for about 6 years. They were good and did not want to switch but my rates kept going up for no reason, i switch to Geico more than triple the coverage and reduced my deductible from 500 to 100. While saving 75 a month. Best move i ever made, its being a year and a half and zero complaints.

Not judging. But for $400 or so a year more you could carry a $500 deductible. At $2000 difference power year that's five more years of insurance paid for every one claim. In other words you would pay the same for two claims over ten years as you will every year doing it the way you are now. Only you know your situation. Just throwing it out there.

Hmm, maybe I should rate check but last time I did USAA was still cheaper since I have renters insurance and a valuable personal property insurance in addition to 2 car policies. I also have accident forgiveness for free since I haven't had a claim in over 5 years.

It certainly is unusual for sure. Typically people that have high deductibles are either wealthy that they only need insurance in catastrophic situations or those that are not so well off and are rolling the dice with a high deductible to get lower premiums. In either case this is not going to be a cheap fix and someone with cash should be equally as bothered by the payout as someone living on the edge.

What is the cost difference for 6 months between a plan with $500 deductible vs $2500? In my case it would be $100-150 max. Paying an extra $2000 for the repair is equivalent to 7-10 years worth of insurance payment. I don’t think it makes much sense to have insurance with deductible that high. Next time your insurance renews, they will raise you 6mo premium anyways. You could have at least paid less out of pocket.

My insurance with a $1300/year policy went up $500 a year for 3 years for each accident. One accident reported costs $2000 since I had a $500 deductible. Makes that high deductible policy look better.

Policy we go up regardless of the deductible after an accident. It goes up because of the increased risk factor.
