I’d keep pushing, and that doc fee is high. I got 13.6% off a 2020 TRD OR DCSB w Adv Tech and Premium, then paid doc fee of $199.

    MSRP includes dealer installed packages.

I just bought a 2020 Tacoma TRD Off-road double cab, extended bed with premium, technology, and carpet floor mats in OR. MSRP: $44K Price was $40,822 before the $1000 Toyota rebate.

Go the Edmunds website and "build and price". The site will tell you the MSRP for your build, invoice, and what Edmunds recommends you pay for your zip code.

So for my build Edmunds said:
    MSRP: $43,973
    Invoice: $40,563
    Edmunds recommended price: $41,075

I paid $269 over invoice before the $1000 rebate.

Might of been able to do better, but I thought it was close enough.

Edmunds gives you a reasonable starting point for pricing.

I didn't want to dicker on price beyond that.

One thing to be careful of, is what the dealer charges you beyond the sale price. There are some dealerships that give you a price, but state it doesn't include dealer "add-ons".

The tricky dealers may give you a good price, but then add some "add on" you have to pay for. Two examples:

One dealership, offers a "security package". This involves adding some stickers with the VIN number, along with some insurance. Costs $400 (mostly profit). If you ask them to take it off, they say "too late, it's already installed".

Another dealership offers a "green package". This involves some door edge protectors (probably urethane "stickers", nitrogen in your tires, and one free quarter size dent repair = insurance) for $900. Again, mostly profit for the dealership.

Always ask the dealer if they put any add-ons on every car they sell. That way you don't get a surprise later and can avoid those dealerships in the first place.

I would also recommend not buying anything they offer in terms of insurance, maintenance packages, extended warranties, clear coat, etc. You can buy any of those items later if you decide you need them.

For extended warranty, I figure I'll see it goes. If the truck works well for the manufacturer's warranty period it will probably last beyond that. If I have a bunch of repairs during that period, maybe I got a lemon and should consider extending the warranty.

    Hope this helps.

The $800 administrative fee just increases the price of your car by $800 dollars. That puts your deal at 9% below MSRP. My dealer charged $115 for processing fees. In end, I would base any deal on total price paid, not just the "negotiated price".

That MSRP doesn't look right if you are looking at the double cab, TRD off-road with short bed.

Edmunds says (assuming So Cal zip code):
    MSRP: 40,845
    Invoice: 37,757
    Recommended: 38,085

Dealers offer is $39,100 with $800 admin fee. That's $1300 over invoice. Not a great deal.

Check Edmunds to make sure the MSRP you were quoted is correct. The $43K MSRP is for the extended bed (premium package is more expensive on that one) I think.

    Dealers are sneaky.

So far, I found a truck two hours from me configured with my minimum requirements. The sales price we agreed to before they even knew about a trade was a little over 14% off MSRP. Much better than I expected.

It’s contingent on Toyota Financing so they must be trying to hit some bonus. First time I’ve ever had a salesman say a deal was contingent on a TFS loan. I have zero problem financing with TFS. I’m also assuming I can payoff the loan anytime I want.

After we entered the trade-in phase, they low balled the shit out of my trade. Their offer wasn’t even in the wholesale range, much less retail. So I’m waiting to hear back if they are going to add 4k to my trade value. I’m sticking to my guns so it’s quite possible they’ll say no and I’ll be done with them.

Any recent Ohio buyers here? I'm curious what discounts Ohioans (particularly north east Ohio) are getting on TRD Off-Road trucks.

Thanks for the input. I actually used Toyota's site and 'built' it as configured and came up with an MSRP $50 higher than they are quoting. I agree the fees are too high though! Here I am initial budget was $30k, then $35 now thinking about being at $40k OTD...

Thats a good deal, you're not gonna get much better, maybe 12%, that dealer admin fee is atrocious though.

Thanks for the comp. I would be curious to see how yours was configured if you do end up posting the contract. I've wondered if some of these 13%+ off MSRP deals have other port or dealer add-ons that they have huge margins on and allow them more room to negotiate down. That's one thing I liked about this truck is it had none of that Platinum care/USB cable/door edge guard BS added on.

This, gotta remain skeptical of some people's deals, you know how it is, everyone want to have thought or tell themselves they got the best deal...

I've had 11 of these trucks, 8 of them new, 10-12% off MSRP is the most you'll usually get unless some weird circumstance has the dealer making a 13-14% deal to meet numbers, etc. or hosing you on trade in, add ons, financing, etc.

Its a double edge sword, everyone loves high resale but wants some crazy stupid deal off MSRP. Can't have both.

Yea, they came up another 1000, but I said no thanks. Their offer barely got into the wholesale range.

I’ll just hang on to my 2015 truck. I’m not going to give away my Q60.

That is certainly true where I’m at right now. Low inventory AND none of the trucks have the LED light package.

Seems like Toyota is not building as many with LEDs for some reason, even my local inventory has a ton of loaded ones without the LED package, that would be a must for me if shopping a 2020, odd to not have it on a loaded up truck.

There is only one silver Offroad 4x4 with prem, tech and led lights in the Gulf States Region.

    What does that tell you?

It tells me the region and dealers are fucking stupid. It’s a $500 dollar option.

So do regions decide what to allocate or does Toyota? Agreed though someone f**ked up on determining what packages to include in the allocations.
