yeah it sounds good, the previous owner put it in. I wouldn’t have paid that much for it.

does anybody sport a really cool aftermarket cassette deck?
i had one, a kenwood, that the whole face turned around after i shut it down
just looked like a blank slot!
it was connected to a 6 disc CD magazine changer that still ejects!

    I know, I know...

    It’s a DUAL!!

it sounds great WHEN it actually decides to turn on right.

I have been trying to find the problem for 2 days now. Just finished probing the power, battery, and ground and all are good.
I am about ready to say screw it and take it back to Walmart and spend the money for a Pioneer like what I put in Mom’s Silverado.

it’s only a single din unit, but it does pretty good for Bluetooth phone calls and usb music. I also have a single 10” in it that I plan to move amp and sub over to my Tacoma. Will probably get either a pair of 15’s or 18’s to go in the extended cab with the amp I already have. I want it to hit good, but not make me deaf or make my eyes bleed..

4xdog that is an excellent idea of where to place the mic (in the panel below). Mine has that blank space as well, but I never thought of using it for that.
*For those wondering...only the Double Cab models have the blank panel. For all others there is a key there to turn the passenger side airbag on/off.

I wonder if there's a lot of noise from the vents?; my phone holder is in a similar spot and people can't here me over the speakerphone when the ac or heat is on pretty much anything but low.

In Mom’s Silverado, I have the mic on top of the dash at the front edge, but face the mic sideways.
Lots of people say it sounds good, sometimes it gets some noise.

all depends on the cell signal strength and connection mostly.

Putting the handsfree mic in that dash blanking panel is pretty simple, and it's a clean installation point. But as @chrslefty and others note, it's far from optimum as far as background noise goes. People can hear me OK, but the sound quality is relatively poor. Some of that might be microphone, but probably the greater part is where I put it. I can't give this mod a high recommendation, alas.

I used the stock Pioneer mic. The tiny grille cover pops off and is inserted into an appropriate diameter hole in the blanking panel. The rest of the microphone is inserted (and somewhat isolated) in a hole cut in a foam block that is fitted behind the blanking panel.

The center dash panel is coming off in a few weeks and I'll see if there may be better options for isolating it further. Maybe there are better mics for a placement like this, too.

I considered putting it in the rear view mirror/map light assembly. That might have been a better choice, and I may yet do that. (The blanking panel is a mod easily returned to stock.)

Just got the JVC put in for now.
It should at least provide some music, even though it doesn’t have Bluetooth or aux input. At least it has pre-amp outputs so I can go ahead and get the amp and sub swapped over to this truck.
