    4.0 V6 for me. Today I was averaging 24 for a quarter of a tank according to the Ultragauge, but I forgot to reset the trip odo.
    Yep...

    The lifetime fuel mileage history on my truck is now right at 19.0. I am typically averaging 20.5-22.5 in mixed highway driving. That's with taking back highways to keep the speed to 60 or lower most of the time.

    Thank you Jeremy!!! Have a Moose Head, on me!

    Know your mileage ('kilometerage') while driving using only your trip odometer and fuel gauge!

    21.1 gallon (80 liter) tank.

    Reset odometer at fill up.

    When gauge needle is firmly over the 3/4 tank line, you have consumed 5 gallons (19 liters).

    If your trip odometer is reading 75 miles (120 kms.) = 15 mpg (6.3 km/l) 15.83 L/100Km
    If reading 80 miles (128 kms.) = 16 mpg (6.7 km/l)14.84 L/100Km
    If reading 85 miles (136 kms.) = 17 mpg (7.1 km/l)13.97 L/100Km
    If reading 90 miles (144 kms.) = 18 mpg (7.6 km/l)13.19 L/100Km
    If reading 95 miles (152 kms.) = 19 mpg (8.0 km/l)12.5 L/100Km
    If reading 100 miles (160 kms.)= 20 mpg (8.4 km/l)11.88 L/100Km
    If reading 105 miles (168 kms.)= 21 mpg (8.8 km/l)11.31 L/100Km
    If reading 110 miles (176 kms.)= 22 mpg (9.2 km/l)10.80 L/100Km
    If reading 115 miles (184 kms.)= 23 mpg (9.7 km/l)10.33 L/100Km

    When gauge is over the 1/2 tank line, you have consumed 9 gallons (34 liters) as our gauge reads less than what really is in the tank (allows room for a 'reserve' amount of fuel when on E... 2.5 gallons (9.5 liters).

    At 135 miles (216 km) = 15 mpg (6.3 k/l)15.74 L/100Km
    at 144 miles (230 km) = 16 mpg (6.7 k/l)14.78 L/100Km
    at 153 miles (245 km) = 17 mpg (7.1 k/l)13.88 L/100Km
    at 162 miles (259 km) = 18 mpg (7.6 k/l)13.13 L/100Km
    at 171 miles (274 km) = 19 mpg (8.0 k/l)12.41 L/100Km
    at 180 miles (288 km) = 20 mpg (8.4 k/l)11.81 L/100Km
    at 189 miles (302 km) = 21 mpg (8.9 k/l)11.26 L/100Km
    at 198 miles (317 km) = 22 mpg (9.3 k/l)10.72 L/100Km
    at 207 miles (331 km) = 23 mpg (9.7 k/l)10.27 L/100Km

    Not sure why you laugh, I have a scangauge, and my highway mileage is worse than any of the available fullsize trucks with V8's. City mileage is a different story, but if you sift through this site, you wil quickly find that the Tacoma is no mileage champ. My dad has a 2010 F150 with 292 hp, going 70 he was getting a steady 23 - 24 Impg, (1650rpm) same road, exact same time, I'm getting 20 -21 Impg, (2040rpm), driving side by side. The worst part, is our trucks are rated to get exactly 20 city / 29 highway.

    Well finally got a chance to try it.
    With a Full tank to when the Low Fuel Light came on, I got 290 miles.

    2009 Pre Runner, with 18k miles,V6, Automatic, 3" lift, New 265/75/16 BFG All Terrain Tires. No other mods, not running the A/C. Island driving, No hills, Not punching the gas on green lights...

    In my opinion, This MPG kinda sucks.

    My old 04 got way better mpg than my new 09 and had more power with 295's. Oh well.

    Did you correct for the difference in distance traveled with your current tire size?

    ^ "Did I correct the distance?" No I didnt. How would I do that?

    I don't know how to calculate this. Are you asking in comparison to my 04 with 295's and or from the 245's to 265's on the 09?

    All I know is that I used to spend $20 a week, and now $40 per week. Again this is Island driving. Slow and easy.

    Calling the dealer ship this AM.

    Jeff, this doesn't mean much unless you tell us how many gallons went in when you filled up at 290 miles (if you put gas in right then).

    If about 17 gallons, then 290 miles divided by 17 gallons = 17.1 mpg.

    This isn't as complicated as it seems.

    1. Calculate the diameter of both sets of tires. Stock and new larger tires. http://www.4lo.com/calc/gearmetric.htm

    2. Calculate the circumference of both tire sizes. http://www.csgnetwork.com/circlecalc.html

    3. Divide the new larger tire circumference by the stock tire circumference. That gives you your ratio.

    4. Multiply your distance traveled by your ratio.

    Now you have your actual distance traveled with your new tire size. This compensates for the fact that you are moving farther with each revolution of the larger tire then you were with the smaller one.

    You edited my post! It said 20 -21 IMPG (As in Imperial MPG, as in Canadian, bigger gallons)
    My truck is actually getting approximately 16.8 USMPG. I have a Friend who's 2010 gets almost identical mileage to mine, so I know what is typical for these trucks. You missed the point that a new full size with a lot more power is better side by side. My 2009 4 cyl would get 25 IMPG on the highway, I had never thought that the V6 was over 20% worse, towing and empty.
    Also, in Canada, they rate the Taco as getting 20 / 29 (14.0 / 9.8LHK).
    Which is off by over 20% on the highway going a steady 70 mph.

    My 2010 had 16 City and 19 Hwy MPG on the sticker... and by George, that is what I get! A rare time it gets below 16 or above 19... Since I do more around town driviving, you can see by my Fuelly.com link below, I am averaging 16.8 mpg. My best was 19.2 and the worst was 15. something...

    Majority of my fuel ups are between 16 and 17 MPG.

    This was identicle to my 2005 and about the same as my 2001 extra cab with the 3.4 V-6.

    So, Toyota made a bigger truck, and with a double cab, bigger engine, and made it get the same mileage as my smaller truck with smaller engine... I have no complaints!

    I think its odd how much the MPG in these trucks differs with the V6. I see some people get below 15:eek:, and some like myself get 20-24....I think it MUST be due to driving habits, jackrabbit starts, and getting on the gas all the time. My stock 06 offroad 4x4 with 265/75/16 never gets below 20. NEVER. This includes using 4 wheel drive for miles, 4 lo, creeping on dirt roads, town/city driving, ect. With a tail wind going south I got 24 and change, was very happy. I love my MPG!!!!:D

    I always use shell/chevron 91 also. I can see how I could get below 20....driving the truck like a sports car, punching the gas, and letting the RPMs get above 2500 more often than not....

    Ok I will try this. Except I just put $20 in the tank.

    So I will top it off and re-fill it when the light comes on, then Ill write down how many gallons it took to fill.

    Thanks.

    I will re-post when its done.

    Just telling what was happening driving side by side with my old man, going down the highway. In the city, the Taco wins by over 10%

    It's quite simple, you don't drive at higher speeds, and your math is a little suspect! If you drive a steady

    70mph= 17usmpg
    65 = 18
    60 = 19.5
    55 = 22
    50 = 24
    45 = 26ish

    So if you don't drive freeway / highway speeds, you can get over 20. Mine get over 20 usmpg when driving in town in the summer. As for accelerating quickly, doesn't make much of a difference on average, as long as you coast down, and don't get heavy on the brakes.

    That's how to do it amigo! Looking forward to comparing notes.

    We all have different "normal" driving habits, and we also all have different blends of gasoline. The more 'green' the government tries to make it by adding ethynol, then the MORE gasoline we need to buy to go the same distance! How 'green' is that???

    My truck, brand new never got more than 20 mpg... the best it gets is 19+ when in Mexico (pure gasoline without junk added) highway driving (50-80 mph).

    When my mileage recently dropped, I discovered that the tire shop (where I got a Rugged Trail with a screw in it patched) lowered my pressure on all four from my 32 to 26! I would assume that they would have accurate gauges, but never assume! I have now upped them to 35 psi cold (the max.) and will watch my fuel consumption for improvement.

    You may have a point on the speeds we drive affecting MPG....yet when I got 24, filled up at pull off on the interstate and reset OD, drove 350ish miles AT 70MPH, pulled off and filled up, divided the miles driven by the gallons put in....24 n change?? I'm not a mathematician, if I was I wouldnt put out forest fires for a living;), but im pretty sure thats how to calculate MPG....Also, I always use shell and fill it till the pump first clicks off, no more. Not saying that all shells pumps are calibrated exactly the same, just saying:eek:

    To add to the dilemma, I dont just drive around town going 25-40 for 400 miles!! I have to go 55-65 on the highway to get to where I'm going. I think my best comes from 65mph. Hell, sometimes I have to go to the big city (idaho falls, pop. 15,000), and put it to 70!!!:eek: Still, NEVER below 20. 22-23 seems normal for me, and I reset OD/record every fillup cause im OCD like that. I dont see how I COULNT get close to/above a 400 mile tank honestly. Yes, I write all of this down and keep it in the glovebox.
    Example:
    Went deer hunting this week. I filled up, reset OD,((btw22.45 on previous tank with 365miles...mostly highway at 55-65, town, and a few 4x4 miles to:D)) drove a total of 215 miles, 100ish at 55 highway, 100 miles all dirt forest service roads, and 15ish miles in 4lo on steep ass trails.....some miles of the 100 miles on FS roads in 4hi...got back to town and went to the same station, filled up with 10.256 gallons for...20.96MPG or 21MPG.

    Am I doing my math wrong?
