I thought I saw a thread about this before but couldn't find it.

I have a 2018 OR and when turning on the truck today the headunit screen turned off, came back on, turned off again and then it rebooted. Going to take it to the dealer for them to look at it, but was wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

It happened to me once a few months after I got the truck and hasnt happened again in the almost two years I've had the truck. I wouldn't worry unless it happens again.

Been happening to mine just within the last week or so.
The irony is that the startup screen tells you not to look at it while driving, but then as it's rebooting while driving... it's distracting as hell!

Okay, I don't have to take it for an oil change for a bit so I'll wait and see if it happens again. If it does I'll let them know when I take it in.

Not much on the 07 yet. 18 is gone, but was a greata truck. TRD Pro grill, Gator FX3, Homelink mirror, Black out badges & exhaust tip, Remote start. Future TRD exhaust, skid plate.
My 2018 JBL radio randomly reboots. It seems to be tied to when I use the bluetooth for a phone call. Of course I could never duplicat for the dealer, so I figure I'm stuck with it.

My 2017 JBL radio does the same thing. I've tried updating my phone and even the head unit firmware and it still just randomly does it. Seems to be working better the last few months though. Maybe an Apple update fixed some of the issues?

This just happened to me this week. Did it for a few days then stopped.

I read it has to do with your phone software and Bluetooth. It would stop if I turned my Bluetooth off on my phone. I left it off for 2-3 days and started working fine all the sudden.

Damn!! That's exactly what happened. I was making a call using my Bluetooth. Can't believe the Bluetooth connection would make it do that.

My 18 was doing the same thing dealer told me I had to update the software everything was up to date on the Etune, the App on my phone, my phone. I stopped them in the process of figuring out what was wrong took it home and it stopped doing it. I think the Bluetooth was causing it to reboot myself.

Toyota replaced mine for random reboots, the new one is worse. Now, mine reboots every 2 minutes for about a 5 mile stretch. Started happening in the same location, so I knew it was GPS related. Pulled the sd card after first reboot for about 5 miles. That fixed it. I borrowed a map sd card from a friend, no reboots.

I thought Toyota’s firmware update solved this issue?

My 2017 4Runner did the same thing. Kept rebooting. I finally found a thread on this forum or the 4Runner forum about it. It seems it started when I upgraded my iPhone. Unfortunately, the “solution” meant I couldn’t sync my contacts with my head unit. I could still use the hands-free function, but I couldn’t see caller ID on the screen and I had to initiate calls from my phone. It was annoying but, obviously, I couldn’t live with the radio constantly rebooting. Problem was solved for good when I traded the 4Runner for my 2020 Tacoma.
