I've installed the clamps about a sixteenth of an inch in front of the spring clamps and noticed the difference immediately. I had to grind one corner down on the right side to avoid any contact with the shock. So far so good. What about putting clamps behind the axle as well? Anyone done this?

after doing a lot of on line research, i did find a truck pulling forum where they talked about adding clamps on the rear leafs when they were pulling. they said it kept their axles from rotating ..which is exactly what we're trying to accomplish.

..so i decided to run them on the back side of the axle for a while (still as close to the spring clamps as possible). it does the exact same thing to prevent the axle from wrapping ..but from take off instead of when stopping. ...i know you've been behind a tacoma at a stop light and seen how far the overload spring drops/separates from the other leafs when they take off. ..it prevents that. but i ended up removing them since i wasn't noticing any adverse affects on take off. just when stopping.

Interesting. So, a u-bolt front and rear should take care of things in both situations.

I'm planning on installing these this weekend. Should do the trick for the overload problem and axle wrap.[IMG]

Sounds like this could work! Add greasing the driveshaft more often and this could actually get rid of the dreaded "clunk" when taking your foot off the brake!

I originally put mine in front right up against the axel and it didn't do much, so I moved them about 5" out in front and it did the trick. I guess it all come down to how bad your springs are. Guess mine aren't too good.

I just did mine. I put them out in front about 5" and it was like a whole new truck. I have a 1" block and warp was bad both take off and landing. Now it's better off the line and at stop. I did notice a little bit of stiffness in the rear. But, after a couple of miles of driving it's a nice change.

Lol, it makes a good excuse anyway. All you really need is a set of U-bolts like the ones from the helper spring pic I posted above.

EDIT: Actually, you don't even "need" that. The axle wrap doesn't actually hurt anything. It's just kinda annoying to some people.

So i installed the helpers today. Took me about 25-30mins with painting. Really easy to do. Seems like the wrap went away. No clunk or thump or anything. ill give it a week. Driving in Los Angeles with all the traffic, we'll see how it olds up.

I'm still in the process of installing my full length ones. Since I want to keep my overload spring I'm having to disassemble the leaf pack.

I just installed the "U" bolts about 5" behind the spring clamp, but in front of the axle. My question is how much torque should I use for clamping them down. Is it possible that if I clamp them together too tight that it could cause anything serious (i.e. break a leaf spring) when I drive?

It won't break anything. It will keep your leaf's from moving at all and make your ride crap. The additional U-bolt/s don't need to be tight. Just tight enough they aren't going to fall off. The U-bolt keeps the leave's from twisting out of alignment under acceleration. It will do that no matter how much, or little, torque you have on it.

Any word on how the helper springs did over the weekend to control the axle wrap - drive shaft clunk?
