Not super cheap... about the same as a 1uz from what I just looked at but they are pretty lightweight at 360ish lbs. But the 1uz is only 400lbs from what I could find which seems crazy. I guess aluminum block vs steel but it seems like a huge difference. Looks like I could definitely get more power from a 1uz obviously so that might have to jump the list, but it would be hard to beat the efficiency of the TDI. Looks like 35 would be realistic. A 4bt Cummins could get 30 and you can get a lot more power out of them but it is 750 ish lbs so it is hard to even compare.

A diesel swap is a huge HUGE task, I've done it take it from me. If you've thought of everything , I'll bet money you forgot a item, trust me. Unless you have a big pocket to sit on and a spare vehicle, dont do it.

That was my initial thought when I left the shop. Timing Belt, Water Pump, and Crank Seal all done. Now to get after some other maintenance items

Yea it would be a long time before I seriously think about actually doing it but it is fun to dream. Out of curiosity what have you done a diesel swap on?

2002 Dodge ram 1500 DCSB, swapped out both axles, tore out front end an swapped in a solid axle with leaf springs on leaf spring slider rails. Bilstien 1500 shocks front an rear. Front axle was a D60 and rear was a sterling 12.5 both from a 03 F250 diesel. Engine was a 3.9L cummins, AKA 4BTA, 5 speed manual with a 205DHD T case. Intercooler was a chopped down aftermarket model from BD, radiator was from summit. It has compounds, a 44MM being fed by a 58MM, torque at the tires was estimated to be over 575-600+ mark an HP was in the 275-300+ area, stock it put out 120HP an 330TQ@1800RPM. Last time I worked on the truck, the engine popped cause the wastegate boost elbow got stuck an boost shot up to fast before I could pull out of the throttle, last run it made was at 52PSI of boost, and still climibing. I can say it was pulling harder OR as hard as most V8s Ive ever driven. Im quitting the build due to lack of time an interest, Im going to in the end sell off the parts or end up building a much more unique rig. All the welding, bracket building an stuff, I did in my basement garage myself. Sometime in the near future, im going to be rebuying another welder but this time it will be a full blown TIG machine.

You build it for off-road or what? The 4bt is a super cool motor... that torque figure:drool:

I was building it for general purpose, all around sorta deal. And yeah, the torque would of been all before 2K RPM so yeah, 4bt is a insanely powerful package for its size, just the weight is what really sucks.
