Just figured that out right before you posted... long drive, indeed! :D

I was sitting here wondering how/why I didn't know about an event like that, so I started investigating.

Figured out a setup that does not completely block my license plate, a 1Up with the Reverse plate option. Threw my Kuat onto my daily beater. You do lose ground clearance (12.5") but you can temporarly flip the rack if you run out of departure angle somwhere.

That’s the relocation bracket from 1up correct?

I have yet to get any grief from my LLE. My rack isn’t on 24/7, but until I have an issue I have no plans to move my plate.

I got pulled over one morning on my way to work (at 5am). The LEO said he saw the tag as soon as he walked up to the truck so felt bad about pulling me over. However, I didn't want to risk a next time. As you can see, the 1Up covers the plate when folded up.

Everyone seems to be carbon crazy. Is aluminum dead, or just uncool now?

People are just soft now. Carbon rides smooth, and the price has really dropped as manufacturing has improved. I am soft enough that I am considering an ebike. Not quite 10 ply soft, but probably like 5 ply at this point.

Years back, titanium was the choice for a great ride. But titanium is expensive. Carbon became more popular but the process was expensive. Carbon tech and processing improved allowing the price to drop, while Ti bikes have an expensive material and process that currently is impossible to overcome.

The wife let me rent a Trek Rail E-Bike for my birthday weekend. My God, this thing was a blast. Did 31 miles and 5,400 ft of climbing.

    not enough.
I don't think aluminum is dead at all. Carbon and Al both have their benefits/detriments. But there are still plenty of people making Al bikes. High end bikes tend to be carbon though. Manufacturing has brought the price, quality, and consistency of carbon down to manageable levels.

That said, doesn't mean Al is bad. Case in point: Ibis Ripmo AF. Ibis saw a need to build a ripmo with an al frame, so they made one.

Looks just like my jet! Looks like your running plus size tires? I tried 3.0s but they seem a little big for the frame clearance.
