    @shakerhood

I saw this truck parked in the spectator lot at the 52nd Das Awcht Fescht, and what immediately drew to it was how clean and immaculate it was! Most of these trucks, at least the ones that aren't show queens, are beaten to shit...

Extended cab ½-ton 2WD GMT400s are uncommon, but not unheard of, in Pennsylvania. A closer look at this truck revealed that it has a 5-speed manual transmission; Stick shift extended cabs are definitely unheard of! Most Sierra extended cabs were fully loaded SLE and SLT models; This is a base model SL. More than likely, this truck has the 4.3L V6 or 5.0L V8, and not the 5.7L...

The one about this truck that absolutely surprised was that it DID NOT have air-conditioning! It's black, and there's no A/C! The base SL trim was not available with power windows and locks, but cruise control and tilt steering were available; This truck did not have those options either, and had a standard AM/FM radio with no cassette or CD. What I don't get is why it did not have air-conditioning!

Some configurations they come up with can be strange. Somewhere around 1995 I rented a Chevy Corsica for a road trip and boy was it a stripper, only had an AM Radio. The seat was so uncomfortable that I ended up with a neck ache and 16 hours of driving with an AM radio was torture.

Did it at least have A/C? There are a lot of things I'm willing to go without in a vehicle, but air-conditioning is not one of them!

A driver's airbag became standard on the GMT-400 for the 1995 model years with the interior redesign; This truck has a passenger airbag, which means it is no older than 1997. I've seen one or two 1988-1994 extended cab GMT400s without A/C, but to see a later GMT400 extended cab with no A/C is definitely a rarity; Most of the non-A/C 1995-1999 GMT400s were regular cabs!

No it only had an AM radio, it was a miserable car, obviously a fleet vehicle.

In 1995, it did not even have A/C? It was probably a 1994 model because that seems to have been the last year certain GM cars and trucks (especially trucks) had AM radios.

The car was brand new when I pulled out of the lot it only had like 50 miles, I'm guessing 1995 or 1996. It was definitely a fleet vehicle designed to be the cheapest car they could sell to the rental facility. I had to make that same road trip a few weeks later so when I went to the rental car place I told them to give me ANYTHING other than that Corsica! They ended up giving me a little Oldsmobile with a Quad 4 engine, that car was way more comfortable and fun to drive.

And it definitely did not have A/C? You know there are poor bastards who actually financed brand new Corsicas at probably 10% interest or higher?

I was just watching something on TV and they mentioned a Chevy Corsica (mind blown). I think the purpose of that car in the rental fleet was strictly for local use as if your car was in the shop for a couple days and just needed to run to work or school. They messed up giving it to me for a road trip, the Olds Achieva they gave me for the next trip was ugly as sin but a much better vehicle to travel in.

I bet those cars lost value pretty quickly too, would have been underwater with high interest.

When we lived in California from 1996 to 1998, the Navy put us in a larger house in March 1997, where we lived until June 1998 or so. Our neighbors, the Coopers, had a white 1995 or 1996 Ford Windstar and a 1988 or 1989 Chevy Corsica; As far as Corsicas go, this one was loaded compared to the one you described! It was gray with a whorehouse red interior, alloy wheels, A/C, and power everything. The husband got transferred to a Navy base in England, and the Navy would only pay to ship one vehicle so they chose the nearly-new Windstar; The Corsica was close to a decade old and, well, a Corsica...

They parked it outside the base on the unofficial "for sale lot" and someone bought it; Obviously, the Corsica was long since paid off (If they hadn't already paid cash to begin with). Mrs. Cooper had the title in hand (I do not know if the car was registered in California or not, as most military families stationed at Moffett Field did not have their cars registered there), and she asked my mom to go with her to sign over the title to the new owners, to act as a witness; My couldn't leave me home alone at the age of 8, so I had to go along...

Mrs. Cooper picked us up in the white Windbag, and keep in mind this was a practically new at the time, fairly well-equipped minivan; My mom rode shotgun, and I rode in the back; For starters, that minivan had ultra-comfortable captain's chairs in the back, and Mrs. Cooper also told me that I could change the radio station from the backseat! I spent most of that trip channel-surfing on the van's radio...

Also, when the Coopers moved to England, they had to give their fairly new dog Tigger (named after the Winnie the Pooh character) away; The UK requires all dogs coming from outside the country (or least outside the EU) to be quarantined for six months because the UK is rabies-free. They figured this would be unfair to both them and Tigger, and gave him to a family member.

And yours seriously did not have air-conditioning? I remember that as late as 1998-1999, many rental cars did not have even a cassette player (including this Dodge Neon my dad got as a loaner when his Pathfinder was in the shop in about 1998), but my dad would NEVER take a vehicle without A/C, EVER. Even the shitty Ford Festiva he rented in England in 1994 had A/C!

Last year for the Corsica was 1996; For 1997 it was replaced with the considerably better but infinitely boring Malibu...

Not to long ago, I saw a white 1995-1996 Chevy Corscia for sale on eBay; It had obscenely low miles and was absolutely mint. The seller, a dealer in Georgia I believe, was asking like five grand....

This Corsica had A/C, cruise, tilt, and an AM/FM radio; If one could have convinced that stealership to cut the price in half (to $2,500), that'd be a good first car for a newly licensed teenager!

Right, this thing was a stripper model, the AM radio had to be the only option, I recall the wipers only having high and low too.

You sure it was a 1995, or that it was brand new? I'm 99% that all GM models had intermittent wipers by 1995, though air-conditioning was an option on Silverados until 2007!

Being a fleet vehicle its hard to tell, possibly had intermittent wipers but not sure. It was absolutely brand new, when I was registered in the lady said you are the very first person to rent this car and it had maybe 50 miles on the clock.
