OEM Thermostat Install

Hey Guys - I’m getting ready to do a timing belt install and have a question regarding the thermostat install. Does the little jiggle valve go to the six o’clock location? That’s what I’ve seen but also read 12 o’clock. I have a pic of my new thermostat attached. FYI it’s the OEM part. Thanks!

 

V6 the jiggler goes at 6 o'clock. I4 jiggler goes in at 12 o'clock. Final answer

 

Nice to see you didn't throw in some cheap azz flimsy aftermarket part too. Cooling system is important to keep tip top shape

 

Did you try a search for that subject? There must be hundreds of posts about it.

For V6 motors, place the jiggle valve at 6 o-clock; for the 4-cylinder motors, place it at 12 o'clock.

 

4 cyl gets 12 o'clock like traditional. For the V6, Toyota specs in the service manual that it goes at 6 o'clock.

 

Yep, plays along exactly with what you found on your own. And good for you for not just thinking that 190+ was just 'normal'

 

Thanks guys!! Yeah I’ve read that people do both so I will go with the 6 since I have the 6 cylinder.

 

As others have already stated, it DOES matter. Did my timing belt, w/p, etc a year ago. Installed t-stat jiggle valve at 12 o'clock as habit. Noticed on my Ultragauge that my temps would go as high as 208-210 degrees. Flipped the t-stat and now the highest it ever goes is 196 degrees.
