Cool video of a Toyota tech tearing down and rebuilding the 2GR-FKS engine. Wonder how common this valve stem wear issue is?

Video would be way better even if it was extremely long if they did a tear down and rebuild with a verbal walkthrough and explanation.

Shop time is precious. Unlikely a factory tech will take that time.

For sure. I kinda wonder how long that took in real time. Can't imagine he got that done in one shift.

That impact driver (the small grey Mikita) puts out 1150 in lbs. ( that is rated but maybe half that that in actual use ) I used one for years. It is great for running up the smaller bolts without over torquing them. The larger impact would be great for bigger bolts. He did torque the heads and a few other things but the video is too quick to get full detail.

I didn't watch it through, but I'd say at least two full shifts. You see him cover it up for the night @ 5:50, and it's a 12 minute video..

All I can say is ,I hope to Hell mine never needs that!! 2016 just hit 60k,running well so far. I think internal combustion engines may be getting a tad too complex for the efficiency gains they get. Makes the simplicity of electric motors seem a little bit more enticing.

I'll have no problem with all-electric motors once some very important things happen:

    1. Range is extended. And I don't mean like how a Tesla car can go 300+ miles on a charge. I'm talking about getting 300-400 miles in a Tacoma-sized truck, and getting comparable towing range to what we are now used to. Don't even get started on Tesla's truck - I'm doubtful that will see any good range while towing 5000+ pounds.

    2. Infrastructure. In other words, fueling stations. It's there in some places, but not everywhere like gas pumps are now.

    3. Charging time reduced. Sitting at a charger for 20-30 minutes to "fuel up" is too long.

    4. Battery fade is eliminated. I'm not interested in losing range/performance over time, and eventually spending $$$$ to replace the battery pack.

Engineers will solve these problems eventually. But for now, I'll take my internal combustion engine. It generally performs the same until it runs out of fuel. I can find a gas station almost anywhere. And it takes 5 minutes or less to fuel up.
