Finally working on putting the dash back together for now.

I got the JVC installed. I will be all back into all this again in a week or two if the stereo I paid for arrives in that timeframe and is in working order.

I also got the wireless charger put on the vent but still have to run the power cord for it. I modified the 2 lower power outlets to be constant power instead of switched. The truck doesn’t really sit much since I found the wiring short.

more to come once I swap the head unit again!!

If you mount microphones like this keep in mind that it is defeating the ambient sound cancellation features of the mechanical design. The vents on the side of the mic, circled in red below, function similar to how a pitot tube on an airplane samples from directly forward vs. from the sides to separate dynamic from static pressure. Here's a quick link if you haven't reverse-engineered pitot tubes yet: https://www.quora.com/How-does-a-st...t-work-if-in-this-case-there-is-relative-wind . The mechanical design of a microphone can be thought of as essentially the same type of pressure sensor as a pitot tube, yet the body is designed for higher frequency response.

When those side ports on the mic housing are blocked, you will have more background noise and the mechanically-designed beamforming is defeated too if present which helps focus the sensitivity on the preferred source.

Also, this approach gives a direct mechanical path for vibrations to transmit from the dash to the microphone sensor. The reason these little cheap phone mics are mounted on a single pivot with a cantilevered main body is because it acts as a frequency filter to reduce direct vibration transfer. I'm sure you guys already were aware of this though and are comfortable with it.

Not intended to be critical, just not sure how much you guys are into mic performance.

Modern mic design is why Alexa and Siri can resolve voice commands across a room. The other trick is electronic processing based on time delays between multiple mics. But the above is really an attempt to do the exact same thing by use of the mechanical design such that the background cancels itself out by being 180 deg out of phase between what comes through the side ports and the main frontal ports.

Definitely by far without a doubt the most I've ever read about a microphone. And now I know what pitot pressure and a pitot tube is:D

I discussed this experiment at length with a friend with a background in electronics (and who's a bit of an audiophile) before trying it. We knew there were some real risks in what we were trying. But the alternative was going to be to hook up no mic at all, cause I can't stand the way they mount originally, and it was easy to try.

Not much expected, and not much lost -- I've probably only used the mic for a handsfree call three or four times in the last 18 months!

Looking at this stereo (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KMBT328/Kenwood-KMM-BT328U.html) vs the BT-228U (.https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KMBT228/Kenwood-KMM-BT228U.html) The only difference I can find is 3 sets of preamp outputs vs 1 set. I like the 228 a little more because it's an all black face. Am I missing something here? I'm no audiophile and probably don't plan on installing any separate amplifiers, just need a bit of a tech upgrade in the truck. Thanks

Well, I HAD a nice little truck I was going to install 4 12” kickers in, but a 19 year apparently wanted to know if Ford and Toyota could melt into one vehicle head on!!

totaled out my truck to the tune of $6000 worth of damage. It had only a $375 buyback so I still have it and the clean Arkansas title in my name, which happened to arrive the same day as the wreck!!

Between the inch shorter from bone and joint damage, and the theory behind 50 lbs equals an inch longer in a critical male area, by the time I get to my target weight, I will be an adult film star!!! LOL

Anyone out there running Alpine hardware? Seems to be a brand conspicuously absent from this thread. I’ve been considering upgrading to their single din head unit, curious if anyone has personal experience.
