Hello TW. First time Tacoma owner here. I've been driving sporty cars for a while now. The past few years I've been driving a Fiesta ST. It's a great, fun little car but being a car enthusiast I'm always looking for a new automotive experience. I've always wanted to try something that I could do some light to medium off-roading in, so lately I've been kind of looking at Jeep TJs and GX470s. I hadn't really seriously considered Tacomas/4Runners because at my price range they usually were pretty high mileage. That changed when the dealership that we bought my wife's car from posted on FB that someone had just traded in a '99 Tacoma TRD Off Road with only 81k miles. Obviously this fit the bill of what I was looking for so I went and checked it out immediately, knowing it wouldn't last long. Long story short, I am now the owner of said truck, and am excited to share it with you guys and hopefully learn a lot from this forum.

Awesome truck and dig that color, nice find! Don't be surprised if people leave notes under your windshield wiper asking you to call them first if you decide to sell it. :D

Bit of a late reply, but you ever go to Windrock?

I do when my Jeep is running. Just blew my pinion ring in it while I was hunting so I won’t be anytime soon. Currently building the taco and finishing it then I’ll be back on the Jeep. There are some guys in the TN forum that wheel it hard so I’d holler at those boys.

Welcome! I'm about 5 minutes outside of East TN. Did you keep the ST? Those are super fun cars. I had a Race Red 2015 a couple years back. I really regret selling it.

I didn't keep the FiST. I would have loved to but I've got the wife's car payment as well, so I can't really afford three car payments. My plan is to pay off the Tacoma and then pick up a fun second car, probably a Miata or something like that.

Tbh, I wouldn’t wheel down at windrock if it’s something you somewhat care about once you build the taco IMO.

Why's that? I've been once and enjoyed it pretty well. It was a rainy day though so there weren't too many SXSs. I've heard it can get pretty busy with them though.

It can get insane down there with the atvs/sxs. Ive only ever wheeled it with Jeep people and I do have a heavy right foot for the skinny pedal so that may be part of my problem lol. I’ve wheeled it in a old 89 F-150 on 37’s for about 4 years and now my 97 Jeep Cherokee on 35’s with a long arm lift. I’ve always had some form of trail damage on my vehicles from windrock. It’s rocky as hell on most trails which is a given here in East TN. It’s fun when you wheel it with people knowing what they are doing and knowing the trails but it’s a given you will get some decent trail damage if you don’t armor up quickkkkk. Oh, you’ll break something for sure too while your down there. Lol. To each is own, but don’t say I didn’t warn you lol.

Well the guy I go off-roading with isn't into anything too gnarly so we didn't run into anything too bad on my first outing. I'll keep it in mind though. I just don't really know where else to go around here. I know there's a OHV park in the Smokies but that's about it.

Bro I’m gonna be deadass serious, if you wheel windrock, please have armor all around to save your truck. Front bumper, skids, sliders, maybe a rear bumper. Bring extra CV axels, spare ball joints, u-joints, oils, tools, and anything else you may think of. That taco is too pretty imo lol. You can wheel these trucks pretty hard but you will break shit with these IFS suspension. If you wanna see some fire roads, go up to Norris at the Grist Mill and hit the clinch river brewery. Not many easy trails around here anymore. Royal blue isn’t as bad as windrock imo but it’s mudding central there too. Smoky Mountains has some loop up there that’s like 3-4 mile long but I can’t remember it right now.
