I have a 06 taco, only owner , and it has 77000 miles on it. My starter seems to have a mind of it own. One day it starts fine, the next day it wont. When I turn the key forward i can hear some noise under the hood, and it does not click like a dead battery sound. if i just keep turning the key back and forth for a few minutes it will finally catch and chug it self over. ( when i get to work it will start fine after i shut it off) FIrst i went and got a new battery and cleaned up my starter connections. Took it to the dealer and they told me it was the neutral switch, so i spend 260 bucks and two days later still does it.(bastards) Im not taking it back, ill replace the starter myself if its bad. anyone else expierence this problem??? also i do have a Viper alarm and remote start combo, that was prof. installed. ( dunno if thats screwing with it)

My truck started doing this when I replaced my battery 2 weeks ago. Took it to the dealer Saturday, and then when I went to pick it up on Monday they said they couldn't replicate it (of course), but it did it right there when I tried to leave. Showed it to the nearest tech and he said it was the starter. So now today I brought it in and they are replacing the starter. And I'm only at 30,000 and 3yrs. and 2 weeks.

They said they ordered a new one. And I hope it is brand new and not some refurbished hunk of crap.

    Good Luck with it.

Edit: do you have an extended warranty? I do and it covers the starter.
