I'm getting a new 2020 Tacoma OR delivered next week. I was thinking of keeping it simple and replacing the tires using stock Rims with K02 tires. Not planning any lift. Is there any disadvantage to just swapping the tires leaving everything else the same? I did notice that size might be more expensive than other sizes by about $40-$50.

I'm new to the truck game. Does a rim only support one tire width?

2.5” lift, Fox 2.5 ext tvl adjustable w/ DSC, SPC adjustable UCAs, Icon RXT leaf pack, Superbump stops, 17x9 Fuel Podium Bronze wheels, 285/70/17 Cooper STT Pro
Get size 265. You’ll be fine with no rubbing. That’s about as big as you can go without rubbing. The tire manufacturer will tell you what size rim they recommend when you look at the description of the tire on their website.
You might as well call headstrongoffroad.com and get a 2” lift with bigger tires and get it over with. Buy once, cry once.
By the way, this info is very plentiful in the suspension section......

You could also go with skinny 255/85/16 which are 33s without rubbing

Why not run what comes on it until they wear out then put what you want on it? You're paying for them whether you care to admit it or not.

Also, other than monetary, why would there be a disadvantage to changing if it's to better suit your need? (Don't lie to yourself on that one.)

I dont need anything more than my stock tires until a late summer week on the beach but by then they'll be shot anyway. Depending on how these wear, I might have a second set of "toy mode" wheels and tires and keep some daily driver/ 80mph commuter, 740 treadwears on the stock wheels.

No, wheel width and the tires you can put on them safely/usefully have a lot of variables. I ran 35x12.50R15 STT Pros and MT/Rs on my TJ on an 8" wheel. Worked so, so well especially around 10psi on the beach. Floated along at 40mph, never had to lock it when going slow. Would I have done that on Big Karen, my 2006 Silverado? God no, that would have pulled a bead quick-like.

    Welcome!

I started off with 265/75R16s (32x10.5") and those didn't balance right. So I went to 285/70R16s (32x11.5"). Then I went to 305/70R16s (33x12.2") when those were a little less than halfway worn because the second set looked a bit small to me. Wish I had just bit the bullet and gone with the 305s to begin with but oh well.

Don’t kid yourself. You joined this damn forum. Now you’ve got the mod bug. As soon as you admitted you wanted new tires on stock wheels. I can say that I’ve ran 33’s on the stock wheels and now 35’s with SCS BR6’s.. If you have a long bed, your truck will look like it skipped leg day (as pictured above with the K02’s) 35’s because I don’t give a fuck about gas mileage and because it’s a TRUCK.

    8B5AC6F0-D459-4828-AB27-F7DA2685D892.jpg35’s

I'm up near Redding so I don't think I've seen ya yet. How do you fit those without trimming your fenders? Looks sweet

I’ll usually head out that way every so often. I’m around paradise/Chico a bunch. Hahahahaha... I trimmed a bunch... aggressive cmc and pushed caster +4

Nice. Yeah if you're ever around Red Bluff/Redding and have some free time we should grab a beer or something! I had to CMC, pinch weld, trim the quarter panels, fender flares, and 4.2° caster just for my 305s haha

Sweet, let me know! I'm working Friday, Saturday and Sunday every week for another month so I'm usually free on weekdays.
