Checking a few threads and see pop & lock tossed around. I checked their site and found some with a camera cutout.

Now, I am perfectly fine with having a non-electric locking gate latch but the camera is what I'm having trouble with.

Has anyone here installed an pop & lock (or other brand with a lock) and camera that properly fit?

I want to do as little modding as possible and find a direct fit cam depending on what lock I find for the gate (P&L or other).

The P&L handle is designed to accept the OEM backup camera, and does so without any fitment issues.

That being said, my '05 was not prewired for backup camera. So I went with an aftermarket OEM-style camera from (I think) Master Tailgater. OEM look and mount, full-color, and standard RCA video connection (which I needed for my Kenwood HU).

Just installed my Pop and Lock on my 2014 Off Road with a back up camera. Very easy to do and the camera fit perfectly.

That's what I was trying to figure out.

Sadly the ones that Master Tailgater have don't come with a lock and the OEM cams they have aren't available for an 08.

Right. I bought the handle w/camera from them, then later I moved the camera into the P&L handle.

    Isn't each handle around $100?

Not good doing this on my phone. Let me try this on my computer and see what in an come up with. I thought about mixing and matching.

Maybe, I don't remember. I think it was $75 for each? It was ~2 years ago though.

When I did the radio & camera, I didn't have a P&L and my OE tailgate handle wasn't setup for a camera. So I bought a camera w/handle. I added the P&L later on.

@prone2xl I still haven't done this mod yet. It was a pain trying to find a cam to fit the P&L for an 08. I'm thinking of doing it just as soon as winter hits or I find one before then. When I do I'll post here. Probably going to find what year got backup cameras close to 08 and just go to the junkyard.

What started me on this journey was wanting to lock the tailgate. I already bought the hinge lock that one of the members sell here. Guess that would do....for now.

Yeah I wouldn’t mind if it locked. Mine doesn’t now tho and hasn’t for almost 12 years of ownership lol
I’ll prob regret cheapening out and not going with the pricey one. Someone said the pop n lock seems cheaply made tho. But these reviews will drive u nuts. For every stellar one there’s a shit one

    I had my 2013 with a pop-n-lock
The hole for the back-up camera fits good.
Easy install too. Worth the purchase in my opinion

I've got an 07 with the P&L handle. I have the license plate camera right now and would like to convert the camera to the tailgate. Wondering how a tailgate can would wire into the license plate cam wires?

Oem or aftermarket head unit? The OEM camera on the aftermarket head unit never worked for me even with the Toyota axis adaptor. I ended up getting a new latch and camera combo and modify my pop lock to work. Yet the quality is a bit on the poor quality side. I run the Alpine ILX-207. If there is something better, I'm all ears.
