Yeah; I wasn't happy paying that much, but didn't see any other way to get what I wanted. Seems like they are all over-priced for what you get.
The guys at Round Lake have been really good to work with in terms of fixing some leaks under warranty. Even though i drilled a bunch of holes in it...

Yea unless you find a used one for under a grand, they are really sickeningly overpriced for what you get. It seems they have increased their prices much more than inflation in the last decade or so. Kind of like the price of trucks in general. Tri+County is good though, their reviews are excellent and they know what they are doing since they have been around selling caps for 30 years.

Maybe take a look at Ranch toppers ‍. Lower price point . There are a few posts about them on here and folks seems to like them .

I have a leer 100xr with sliding/ folding front window, carpeted headliner, remote locking rear latch, and thule tracks and cross bars. I love it. I had a 100r on my 2nd gen and the locking rear latch on the 100xr is a game changer.

All this being said, I'm looking to get a RLD designs canopy. I just went to look at one yesterday and I'm super impressed. The basic cost is just a little more than my 100xr.

That remote locking option might be worth considering honestly that would be pretty convenient not fumbling around with keys. That RLD looks stout. I’m stock and not wanting to add suspension yet, I’ll wait until the factory stuff wears out, so something like that would have me with bro lean.

If you have time and can drive a bit, used shells show up at 50%-75% off retail. Just takes patience. That said, nothing wrong with buying exactly what you want. I started with a bed cover, but very pleased now that I have a shell.

Ya I do keep looking for used. Hopefully I’ll find one in my color eventually. I bought the bed cover to buy time until I could find used. Then went back to looking for new.

If anyone’s looking for a complete bedrug for 5’ bed there is one on Amazon warehouse deals for $200. Pretty good deal. I grabbed a bedrug mat XL on there for $100 it arrived Friday. Perfect condition.

I found a used one on Craigslist, that was on consignment at a truck outfitter. I had a great adventure with my son traveling to get it. Price was awesome! It's a Leer XQ. I added Yakima rails, control towers, and roundbars.

I would love a remote locking rear hatch. My '01 has two handles you have to lock separately so most of the time, it's unlocked.

I had the two handles on my 2nd gen. The remote locking latch just makes it much easier. That is one of the only cons I can think of about the RLD canopy. If/when i switch to a RLD canopy, the two latch con will be far out weighed by the pros that the canopy will provide me.

Not quite like that. But I am really considering the alucab explorer in black. But I will be putting up the current one when that happens although I will not be letting it go for the ridiculous deal everyone on tw seems they should be.

I just ordered a Bestop (not the V2) on Amazon warehouse for $400 (like new damaged box). I'll probably see how that works out during the return window. If It works I'll rock that until I find a used hard cap or maybe I'll just decide that the soft top will do what I need. I don't really leave much in the bed usually and I could always switch back to my hard trifold bed cover if I need to have more security. So many options available with these trucks in regard to after market accessories, makes it harder to choose lol. I couldn't pass up a used price for the new Bestop even though it sounds like most people like the actual Softop brand more (they are owned by Bestop now though, so I guess they are all Bestops :D)

I still have not seen one used. The one I ordered will hopefully be in this week (5 weeks from order date) but who knows with the Pandemic. Evidently ARE is still making them as of now...
