I always run mine through HR Block online, Turbotax, and tax act. Whichever one comes out better is the one I pay for. Do it online and you dont pay until you actually submit it. It's really not hard at all if you have simple taxes. Now if you own your business or have a lot of stuff to claim, it may be beneficial to pay a tax expert to get the most deductions.

    This.

I am still waiting on a 1099 from etrade, but otherwise have my return completed. I estimate I'll get a little over $1,500 back. Whatever it is will be sent to the mortgage company as a principle payment, as I have no other debt.

Can’t wait to hear from our accountant in a few weeks. This is my least favorite time of the year

Last year was the first year I had someone do my taxes. She initially got back to me saying I was going to owe like $900 or something, which was odd because I hadn't changed my withholding and usually get ~$250 back federal and owe <$100 state.

So I did some quick off the cuff calculation and emailed her saying "hey can you double check that cuz it seems like I should be getting $400 back not owing that much"

Turns out I was within $50 on my guess, needless to say I'm going to do them myself again.

Im in NY and the on the state website they have links to use online prep programs for free if you make under a certain amount of money.

I've been using turbotax for as long as I can remember. I own a home, married and have 3 kids to claim. It's still super easy to file. Only $80 for my tax situation. Cheaper the less complicated I guess you can say. Meaning if you have no house or dependents. Also they walk you step by step through all tax questions. Definitely worth a try

I also claim single and 0 all year. I love my February bonus!

I claim single and 0, but my wife works so we always get tossed in a new bracket and end up owing

That's rough man. My wife doesnt handle much of our finances so I've had her on single and 0 as well. 2019 was the first year she didn't work. She's been moved to the role of stay at home mom. This is the first year we wont be getting back more than the previous year since we've been married. Still a very nice chunk of change though

Yea definitely. As long as you can make your situation work for you that's all that matters. I dont mind shelling out the extra $400 a week to get a very nice bonus in February. I've got it worked out that I rack up my credit cards during christmas and black friday. Then pay them off when tax time comes. Has kept my credit great.

Turbotax - I've used it for our taxes for a while now - ours are a bit complicated (I still work and we have a small horse farm and train horses some) - but it works well for us. I'm having my daughter use it this year for the first time - she worked during her (college) freshman year for the summer.
