Lots of small details but all together will add up to an experience unlike any truck has been able to offer I the past. one benefit I can imagine at the moment should be axle placement similar to portal axles lifting the truck up higher and allowing for better clearance. Also remember the entire bottom of the truck will be flat like one giant said plate so no low points that are weak if banged against a rock like control arms or the rear differential.2560px-NormalVsPortalAxle.svg.jpg

Doesn't a EcoBoost have basically the exact same stats? At least when I get 400 miles with my 11,000 lbs I can fill back up in 5 minutes and keep going.

It's electric. I've got to plug it in which means what I'm saving in gas I'm spending on my electric bill. And last time I checked, my electricity come from fossil fuel. You're robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Army trucks have had Portal axles for at least 30 years, maybe more. The technology hasn't trickled down to civilian vehicles already so I can't imagine it will for electric vehicles.

I'm really not trying to be a jerk but honestly it seems to me that the basis for the love of electric vehicles is nothing more than status and pride in knowing you have the latest technology.

I guessing that most people realize that it still not free electricity. You still need fossil fuel to run the generators to make electricity, the case for the batteries, the coating on the wires for all of the electronics, and the technology provided by the computers (which are made in a plastic enclosed case). Yes there is nuclear power plants but there is still fossil fuel powered back ups for the cooling system of these plants. Just my input. I’m sure people are ready to throw rocks at this theory now.

For me it’s mostly about the huge torque numbers and the torque curve. No waiting or dependent on RPMs to get to the power band, as soon as you touch the throttle the torque peaks until you let off.....

I voted Ford. But dont count out Toyota being too far behind with their already proven & first hybrid power trains.

I'm sure that's why Ford threw a bunch of money at Rivian... They just want to help out of the goodness of their heart.

Yeah and Paul is going to have to expand / update their network- which means big $$ - all paid by the customer.

Ok millies, you are going to have to convince this boomer that I can strap on extra batteries like I can fuel cans to not run out of fuel while camping out in remote places before I trade in my ICE powered truck for one of those. 400 mile range just wont cut it, especially if loaded down with gear or towing a offroad trailer.

Went to a bicycle shop a few years ago to look at upgrading and they said you can buy a bike with no brake or shift cables... everything was Bluetooth. They didn't have any in the showroom because people bought them faster than they could stock them. Price $3500.

People will buy stuff just because it's the latest technology without considering the actual cost.

True at Mass adoption, but not for a long time. Right now some states are shutting down solar production in the morning/early afternoon because of not enough demand. Charging at work would really help balance the grid. Also Charging at night when there's a ton of excess capacity is already encouraged by alot of utilities by lowering rates overnight. All electric cars are able to schedule when they charge to take advantage of cheaper rates.

We've been paying for network upgrades for the last 100 years.

The next car we buy will likely be electric, and our next house will have that in mind with wiring. If there was an electric Tacoma option for not a huge surcharge I would have looked at that. With most people's daily driving being far less than range (even for some of the worst performing models), an electric truck might make a ton of sense for some people, much like a Ridgeline or other unconventional approaches.

So how long will the batteries hold their charge? Like if I drive to the airport and park “my” new electric truck for 2 weeks, will it still have a charge to drive back home or will it have to be plugged in while in storage?
