Exactly. I wonder about cost of replacement when batteries get weak. Not to mention no one knows the timeframe for that either. My Tacoma is closing in on 10 years old. Willing to bet batteries will have to be replaced by then in an electric vehicle.

I know Tesla will be making an technical announcement before summer regarding the next generation of batteries. The floodgates for electric cars will happen once the battery technology improves and the costs come down.

Batteries in electric cars are generally considered better than the battery technology used to start your current ICE vehicle

From articles I have read, it has been 5 years run time before replacement. But batteries are better now.

Interesting. We are no where NEAR solar production here so I never realized that side of things.
Good to hear though - some proactive ideas for usage

Hopefully solar panel tech makes gains with battery tech and we can eventually trickle-charge at base-camp.

So true. The actual cost or long term affects.

    + 10 internet points lol.

Although think how awesome it would be to camp a mere 100 miles from civilization and still have a giant battery full of power without the annoying hum of a generator in the great out doors.

Tesla is promising 500 miles of range. Others manufacturers will likely go the plug in route so you can have the best (and worst) of both worlds.

Has anyone ever heard anything or Toyota with an electric truck ? I have heard some stuff about possibly a hybrid Tundra in the mix but I don’t know how true that is.

I’m not really all that excited about the change into electric vehicles, I think there are bigger fish to fry out there and the technology with batteries just isn’t there yet. But it’s coming wether we like it or not so may as jump on board.

A big increase in BEVs will be a problem in parts of Calif where they have to shut down the outdated power grid in dry weather to prevent discharges/sparks from the power line starting fires.

The Rivian will sell to well heeled truck buyers and then sales will tank. It’s simply to expensive, it’s starts at $69k.

uh during the day while people are at work is typically the highest demand time, you aren’t balancing the load during that time frame, that’s the most expensive time frame for power. Night is when we need more balancing and we shut down the peakers.

I look at EV compared to ICE, and it seems Like ICE doesn’t really Stack-up against EV.

EVs are cheaper to operate, have far less moving parts and less systems that can fail.

once nuclear energy and other technologies are perfected, EV will be exponentially cleaner to operate.

EVs are far more powerful with instant torque too

Is the government doing any tax rebates or discounts for people switching to EV’s? They had some good rebates in some provinces here that were certainly drawing more people in.
