I would say if you require a winch to do what you are doing. Its outside of your range to do.

    Just IMO

    :infantry:

Now if you just happen to slide off the trail and need it once or something, then that is a different story.

I wouldnt say so. It way more of responsible wheeling. I wheeled for a couple years without one and dispite rarely getting stuck i hated the fact i didnt have one because it makes recovering vehicles way harder. if you dont have one now your in the way of someone that does have one. i got mine last year and used it 1 time to pull my buddy backwards out of a mud hole that was deeper than he thought. Wouldnt have been able to do it with a tug. What trails you enjoy are selective. Some people like just cruising around on slightly harder than gravel roads. I personally like doing much more difficult rock crawling stuff.

If you don't winch - you aren't playing hard, if you don't get trail damage - you aren't wheeling, but dirt road cruising

I’m at the point now where it’s almost needed for every vehicle to have a winch. Thinking it would have been easier with the group I ran with. Also, can avoid damage or further damage. I could have avoided my encounter with my tree if I could have gotten winched from the side. Meh. It is what it is

As having ran with Peter in that group we could have made it up that ice hill without fearing leaving our guys behind :( I almost had it lol

More responsible wheeling to winch for 9+ hours?

We all have different idea's and likes :fistbump:

I never said having a winch is a bad idea, just relying on it to do all the work is :anonymous:

I'd rather go where my truck can get me into and out of then have a winch for when you make a mistake. I am learning what I can do before I get a winch, and it is a lot

Hmmm...that was on the way in, feel like we would have noticed if it was leaking then. But I do see what you mean about the lot of steam lol

Im not disagreeing that going down trails over your vehicles/driving capability is a bad idea
Most of winching was done to the ill-equipped vehicles
You can still do other types of recoveries even if you have a winch but it makes it much easier and safer having one than having to snatch around trees, turn a vehicle around on the trail or whatnot when ever a winch is needed.
Why make a situation harder by not being properly equipped?

I'd just like to add, that is why I did not attend. My Tacoma is in no way ready to wheel yet. When it is I'll join you guys and gals.
    Hopefully more media to come.
