I have a Propex heater in an aluminum box that I used when the weather was around 30F or so and it kept the Habitat around 60F which was fine for my 18 year old corgi. It's about keeping him warm and comfortable in his golden years. That was fine for the desert, but temps here are well below that, and the Habitat is hard to insulate. Thinking of going with a Sprinter or maybe a AT Summit or Atlas, but I'll miss the space of the Habitat.

That’s sounds a little crazy, was there a leak in your system? When the heater is mounted within the cabin or when it’s recirculating properly, a propex heater is enough to require it to cycle off from being warm. However there is reduced performance from these heaters in high altitudes or when the thank is too cold. I’ve taken a diesel heater to sub zero temps at 6,000 feet with no problem.

Maybe I've missed this earlier but was curious if anyone one has managed to figure out a useable awning to go with habitat, perhaps one that can be used in both closed and open habitat positions?

Re sleeping platform: Why not making it yourself? All it is is atlantic birch panels fixed with a piano hinge that goose charges a ridiculous amount of money for.

I’m probably going to. I’ve got one right now and I’m thinking of ditching it and making one that covers like 3/4 of the area. Gotta be cheaper

debating on just getting some fancy board or getting some 8020

wonder if anyone figured out how to mount it on the upper portion of the lid, so to provide the continued shade/shelter when the tent is unfolded.

that looks like a pain... I started to look for a possible set up but i was thinking of mounting it on the "lid" of the habitat to use it when tent is open... but this is starting to looks like a bad idea already

If you want to use it when it’s open, couldn’t you just get a J hook and hang it on the lip once it’s open?

In the bed of the truck? Strap it to the roof rack? Add a hanger to the side for transport?

I gave up on mounting to the lid. Just made things overly complicated and heavy. Mounting on the side of the Habitat seems to be the way to go. It's perfect there. Was a little worried about it sticking out, but it's still well inside the width of the mirrors, especially since the upper part of the cab and Habitat tilt inwards. Having it on the side also means it's easy to use whether the Habitat is open or closed.

I have mine mounted on the side. I have thought about using a heavy duty hinge on one side, with a quick connect latch on the other, that way I could swing it out and use it next to the natural awning that habitat creates. It hasn't gotten past the stage of just an idea yet, We typically move camps alot so try to minimize setup time, however if I have any extended 2+ day trips in one spot where I see myself using the awning I will probably try and see if I can make it happen.

Here is a crappy diagram of what I was thinking.

Hinge at pink circle, latch at green

Blue square would be after swinging out awning and deploying it. Again pink circle is hinge, and the green here would be an extendable aluminum pole like used on the ends of the awning.

That's a cool idea. Is your awning mounting so that it is at an angle (parallel with side of habitat) or perfectly vertical (Perpendicular to ground)?

It is parallel to side of habitat now for simplicity's sake, If I put a hinge it would definitely be vertical.

yeah, that's what i was thinking, or that thing would be at a really fun angle :) The pivot idea does seem a lot simpler than mounting to the Habitat lid. Personally I just don't think there is a big enough benefit to having the awning moved from it's current location. Maybe I'll change my mind after I get my bumper and hot water system mounted up. More reason to be under the Habitat Roof/Lid behind the truck then.

I’d imagine that hinge would have to be massive to hold it in place securely. I think it’s a cool idea cause that’s where the awning is needed most as continuation of the habitat cover.
