ARB Twin Compressor (CKMTA12) Wiring

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping for some advice/confirmation that I am on the right track.
I am trying to sort out wiring a

$611 CKMTA12 '12V' On-Board Twin High Performance Air Compressor, Ideal for Air Lockers Locking Differentials, Tire Inflator, Air Horn, Air Tools and Pneumatic Tools.

CKMTA12 as simply as possible.

I'd like to have a simple switch (no illumation) right next to the compressor under the hood. I also don't plan to have it switched by the ignition, meaning it'll come on with just my simple switch. I plan to have the QD and switch side by side, so I'll need to open the hood to use the QD and will just operate the switch at that time. I also know that it isn't recommended to use the compressor with the truck off, and I don't plan to, but I'll just manage that myself.

I have attached a pic of the wiring diagram, with the modifications that I *think* will work.


Any thoughts?

Well, shoot, that is even simpler than what I thought!

Did you do this yourself? Or, is it just evident from the wiring diagram?

That makes sense.

But since that's the case, your first diagram of just wiring the purple and black to a switch is the simplest ... I think I'll go that route.

Sorry to bug you with this again, but I do have one other question.

I noticed on the diagram that I first posted, one of the switches - the isolation switch - is tied to 12v(ignition).

I am in no way saying that your diagram is incorrect, I just wanted to point that out in case you missed it. Is that a valuable clue or no? Just do it as you described originally?

I don't care about it being switched by the ignition, but it made me wonder if I needed to pick up 12v somewhere for the other side of the switch...

 

Yeah I missed that.
You'll need power to the PURPLE. 8 amps is mentioned in the install instructions but I think that is for when all 3 switches are used. So 8/3= 2.333. I say get a 3A fuse, if it fails then up to 5. The switch you use must handle the 8+ amps just to be within specs...The ARB ones are Carling types, they are 20 amps.

So, it'll be like my first diagram, but you recommend a fuse 3A (or up to 5A) on the purple line next to the battery.

Here is a new diagram just to be sure that I have it correct.

Can you post pictures of the completed install? I'm in the same boat as you. I want onboard air (tire fill ups), but don't see the point of running a switch into the cab.

What mount is that?

In your wiring diagram (post #10), you're proposing an engine bay mounted switch. Is that the switch in your photo (black with yellow font)?

The switch is yellow and black on the left and it's a Blue Seas circuit breaker. Definitely overkill, but I already had it and it fit.

I'm not running the dual setup, just the single but I don't think switching black in connector 2 will work. Black in connector 2 is coming from ground connection in connector 1 to complete circuits on air solenoids (high side switched) and the switch backlights. So switching ground on 2 won't do anything here and as soon as purple gets 12V the compressor will run due to the relay coil being connected to ground via connector 1.
