Here is an article/video of a Taco losing control on wet pavement on a turn. As a new owner, based on only a few weeks driving a 2020 and a few weeks driving a pickup, I think this is expected behavior. My guess is the owner was in 2WD and the back end got loose and he/she over-corrected. We're driving a nose heavy, RWD vehicle, and an empty pickup bed. This all seems like normal behavior.
Recently, I was out at the beginning of a slushy snowstorm, and my rear wheels broke free twice while in 2WD. I switched to 4H and the truck felt more planted.

As I said, I'm a newbie pickup owner, so looking for some education here, not to get flamed. That being said, it's TW so I know it's all in good fun anyway.

It boils down to learning how to drive carefully in wet conditions. Get good tires, take turns slow, and be easy on the gas.

2wd has nothing to do with this. They were driving too fast for conditions.

    Simple case of hydroplaning.

Could be the first rain in a while too. All the road grime rising up to the surface making the roads a little slicker than they would be normally in wet conditions.

Probably a combo of slick roads, worn tires and too much skinny pedal.

This is what im thinking, theres not a lot of water on those roads, so light rain brings up the oils in the road making for a really slick surface.

I’m just thinking hydroplaning involved a greater volume of standing water. Not wet roads.

Lack of experience could have definitely played a part there.

In a truck, you can accelerate OR turn.

Not both at the same time.

Speed kills. Too fast for conditions. Over correction on steering was visible here.

Could also be tires, wet roads, driver error, texting. Tacomas are not FWD or AWD. Never use cruise control in the rain.

Hope they are okay and we all learned something. Be safe everyone

Slick/wet curve to on-ramp. Driver over accelerated for conditions in the turn which caused rear wheel loss of traction.. the driver felt the drift and over-reacted.

    Stock and staying that way
Classic over correction. Nothing to see here other than driver error.

Water builds up in the grooves where the asphalt is worn down. You can see it in the vid.
It really doesn't take much standing water for a car to hydroplane.

I destroyed a "96" mustang from hydroplaning at around 40mph. Car spun around on a 4 lane, narrowly missing a dump truck and slamming into a parked vehicle on the side of the road.

They should have taken that corner much slower. The other Tacoma in front of the one who managed to spin out took it fine without any problems.

I watched the video in slow-mo a few times, and this armchair CSI detective thinks they turned into the bend too much, Watch the front tires, they cross the lane divider lines, the rear end seems to stay put, then they over correct and go into the ditch. On a dry day they may have been ok. But as others stated, worn tires and speed probably had a lot to do with this.

This happened to Steph Curry a while back. Car lost control on wet roads and smashed into his Porsche.

    https://abc7chicago.com/sports/dashcam-video-shows-crash-steph-curry-was-involved-in/4773015/

Also the road I take to and from work daily.
