I’m thinking when I re gear I’m just going to pull the trigger on 88s to be prepared for tire weight, cargo and towing. I’ve read people that got 4.56 some wish they went lower to 4.88. But never peoplebotching about 4.88 wanting 4.56.

What size are you rolling? With essentially 33" Duratracs + second gen (2013), I absolutely would not change it if you are going to have it be a daily driver also. The 4.56 gears feel great, and RPMs are not screaming on the highway. It's helped a lot get back to normal, which is all I wanted to accomplish. If you want higher RPMs than stock for a more peppy approach, 4.88 then.

It's hard for me to try to keep up with all this. Trying to keep up with the ones who have auto. vs ones with MT & 4.0 vs 2.7. My little 2.7 W/ auto runs appx. 1800 rpm @ 60 mph., & is kind'f straining just to keep speed going. The same 2.7 W/ MT is running 2056 rpm @ 60 mph., If I drop to a 4.56, my auto will go up to 2001 rpm. @ 60 mph., still 55 rpm. less than the MT. Also 4.0 vs 2.7, while my little 2.7 is straining at 1800 rpm. @ 60 mph., I'd think a 4.0 may be perfectly comfortable at 1800 rpm. @ 60 mph. The auto. vs MT & 4.0 vs 2.7 are huge factors while trying to decide. Wonder if it may be less confusing if there were a thread for gearing 2.7's only, the auto vs MT can be figured, roughly, by the auto will need to be geared one size lower to have the same torque & hwy rpm. as the MT.

You need to look at the data sticker inside the door jab on the driver's side door. There is a code on there that will tell you what gears you currently have on the truck from the factory. Look up the code online. I am currently running factory 4.56 gears in my 06 Tacoma.

Wish I'd been that lucky, Doesn't seem to make sense, but from all I've found, all 2013 the reg. cab 4X4 Tacomas came with 4.10, no matter if auto or MT.

Negative, 3.31, 3.73, and 4.10 were the only axle ratios for second gens.

Not true! I have already verified mine. It’s 4.56. But I have a double cab.

That chart you’re thinking of is for first gens. I’m positive there was never a 4.56 ratio on second gens.

Ahhhhh you’re right! I was looking at a 94-04 chart. Hummmmmm? A04B is my code. I wonder what my gear ratio is? This tells me I’ll have to regear.

You sir have 3.73’s depending on tire size you may want to regear, I’m in the process of swapping everything from my single cab to my double cab so I’ll have 35’s with 4.88’s in a 6 speed manual. I’ll be quite overgeared but it’ll scoot

Well som-bitch! I've got 265's on now but I'm planning on putting 285's on. Maybe 4.56's is what I need to regear to.
