Tire Pressure Sensor from 07 to 2011?

Hello everbody,

I have an 07 Tacoma Double Cab TRD Sport and im selling it to get a 2011 double cab TRD Sport, I currently have the 20 inch Toyota wheels on my 07, but want to swap them to the 2011 and put the 2011 wheels and tires on the 07 (I sold my original TRD Sport Rims and Tires), my question is, do i need to break all the tires down to change the Tire Pressure sensors also, or can i just do a simple wheel swap and use the 07 sensors on the 2011 and the 2011 sensors on the 07, if so, can they be reset?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are going to have the sensors assigned to your vehicle that you are putting the tires on. Each has it's own ID number and until they are input to your ECU the truck will not recognize them. They will work but have to be input to the new trucks ECM. Try and work into the deal with your dealer, that after you swap the wheels and tires they will assign the sensors to your new truck for free. I bet they will do that for you.

 

Can just a tire place do this, or only the dealer?

 

Dealer only, they have to use a scantool to access your ECM. I set them up in vehicles all the time when NTB or whathaveya screw them up mounting new tires and break them. They put in the sensor usually and I will assign the sensor to the vehicle. Not a big deal. The sensors send a radio signal to the ECM, the ECM just has to know the ID number so that it will recognize it.

 

After you get the ID's There is a laptop (scantool) that plugs in under the dash and you have to delete the previous ID's and insert the new ones. Then intiate it and voila it's back to normal. Before the scanner came out we had to break the tire down to get the ID numbers.

 

As long as you are using the same wheels you are fine. You can change tires a 1000 times as long as you are using the same wheels. Sensors are your valve stems. 28 a tire is expensive, 17.90 is my mount and balance fee. If you do all four it's 69.95.

 

Gotcha, I wonder if having a set of TPMS, sensors in both wheels in the long run would be cheaper.
