Regular driving to and from work. Small bit of off-roading. Never stressed the engine. No towing whatsoever.

Checked the oil before driving it off the lot and once at ~2500 miles. Everything looked good.

Damn sorry to see that OP. I would be worried about it. 1.5 qt doesn't seem low, unless it's your truck.

Sounds like you have an oil burning problem then. Very weird as these engines aren't known for that.

Toyota needs to fix or replace the engine IMO. You'll probably have to do an oil consumption test first though.

thanks for the input. Sounds like the “oil pressure” warning light is of greater concern.

I don’t know what you’re concerned with. Toyota says first oil change is at 10,000, and tacomaworld has informed us you’re just wasting oil and money if you change it any sooner.

I’m meeting with the general manager tomorrow and am going to ask for an extended warranty. If I have the same problem at 10,000 miles during the scheduled oil change I’ll ask for a new engine... or sooner if needed.

It was good at 2500 but not by 6000 then that’s disturbing and an eye should be kept on it. 5k should only be tire rotation top off of fluids. So unless some lube bay tech started to change it then stopped I would be wondering where that oil went.
If oil was on the tip of the dipstick you should be fine very little chance any harm would have been done.

    There's clearly a problem if you're losing 1.5 quarts in 4500 miles.

Has your truck been serviced at all? If so, do you know if they touched the oil?

Gotta ask, off road did you ever get yourself onto a steep incline or significantly tilt the truck to one side? Could have sucked oil into the cylinders and burned off, but you would've noticed quite a bit of smoke from the tailpipe. I also don't think you'd burn that much without knowing in that scenerio. Probably not the issue, honestly.

I believe the OP was talking about low oil level, not pressure. Two very different things. Low pressure is definitely a problem, low level is not necessarily a problem.

It’s fairly common for a new engine to have higher than normal consumption during break in.

Also OP, how exactly did you check the oil? How level was the vehicle? How long was the engine off before pulling the dipstick?

Make sure it is topped off and drive it hard for a week. High revs and pull hard from any stops, downshift when slowing down. If its a ring problem it can help. I have bought new and broke in 3 recent toyotas that use 0w-20 and I break them in hard and none burn oil. Break in wasnt such a big deal back before factory fill was full synth, but now they are so slippy that rings dont always seat with a easy break in.

You dont have anything to lose at this point.

    I checked it 3 times.

1st. After driving for over an hour, waited 30 minutes for the engine to cool down... barely a drop on the dipstick.

2nd. The next morning I checked with a completely cold engine... oil level was about a quarter inch below the low tick.

3rd. After running the engine for 1 minute... waited 5 minutes to settle... no oil on the dipstick.

    Good question...

Are you positive, that they didn't change it a 5000 mile service. My dealer service, has been changing mine at 5000 intervals, under the 2yr/25000 complimentary service.

Some of you guys are nuts. Demand an extended warranty from the dealer? What'd they do wrong that they should pony up and pay for one? Have the engine repaired or replaced? This is a tad extreme.

OP keep an eye on the oil level. It's not abnormal for a new engine to burn some oil. Not sure what Toyota says but most manufacturers say 1 qt per 1000 miles is normal consumption rate.
