Whoa now, be careful with an old school Mainer saying that OOB is Downeast O.O you'll be hung drawn and quartered. Anything south of Bangor is Southern Maine boy, let me tell you hwhat bub.

One reason I left the state - everyone needs to be from more rural and more north than you like it's a point of pride, and nobody will move on from that.

    :annoyed:

I currently only have one 1 gal plastic jerry can for my lawn mower :D but I will get a steel 5 gal before this trip.

The back story is something to do with sailing, so it really isn't actually.

I got 3 for the last trip 2 gas and 1 water, worked well to have them strapped up front out of the way, and 2 bins full of my camping, and recovery gear, and the cooler out back. they rubbed together, but wasnt soo bad I wanted to make a mount. looking at building a single shallow full length drawer on the drivers side, and places for the 3 jerry cans on the passenger side to counteract the /TACO-LEAN/.... dunno if this will be done in time for the trip, waiting for better weather.

I'm planning on water gallons, one for each me and dog, each day. At least that way I can kind of ration/plan it out. I'm thinking strap the cooler to the front of the bed, gas cans to a side somehow, and then the spare probably near the tailgate. I'ma be cab camping with the pup, so don't have much gear if any.

I'ma sneak in without recovery gear other than the standard jack/wheel, etc. for this trip and hope someone can save me if I end up in a ditch (unlikely to happen). :cookiemonster:

About right.. often the closest resources/ towns would be in Canada, not Maine. This isnt a hard trip by any means, but I doubt many people understand the miles involved to traverse Maine

It's about the size of the rest of New England.

The exit numbers are mile markers, so it's a little disheartening to cross the border and see "Bangor, 180 miles". Then you keep going, and going, and going, and it's just pine trees and moose for ages, and then you see another sign..."Bangor, 160 miles"

    :frusty:

I take the train/bus a lot when I go back up, relax and watch top gear.

one I remember was Paul (??) had a flat on his passenger rear, we changed it in the middle of the road after Ghost Trains on the 2nd day. luckily it wasnt raining. got myself a bottle jack just because of this situation. now I need to get myself a correctly sized spare tire.. to match my new 265/70/17's thinking of just carrying a spacer, and a stock sized spare with a 265/75/16 tire on it until i get another set of method wheels for the trailer/spares.

You'd be better carrying some 2x4 instead of a spacer.

not sure I get this? the 1.25" wheel spacer will make the wheels stickout the same as my method wheels, and the tire size is as close as you can get to a 265/70/17 on a 16" rim and it'll still fit in the stock location.

Sorry. Went from bottle jack to spacer. Thought you lifted and needed a spacer for the bottle jack.

To put this comment in perspective: I left camp last year, Monday morning at 0530. I left Maine into NH on 96 at 1100.

I hit no traffic and will only confirm that my speed never entered triple digits for the ride down.

Two spares is a good idea. Every truck doesn't need one, but for serious trips I like to bring 3 spares per 2 trucks.

I'm going to be looking for a normal TRD OR rim for a spare so I can rotate in the spare. If I end up going for more of these trips I'll go for a second one, and just rotate 6 wheels and have the 2 spares.
