Toyota doesn't care about slinging out goodies to upgrade your Taco with TRD Pro parts.

Non pro owners buying pro stuff. If they wanted to protect it as a special edition instead of a mass produced option, they would go after the grille knockoffs and make sure all the dealer parts stores didn't sell parts to people without that version. They don't seem to care that much.

I think corporate does care but parts department employees just sell to anyone with a credit card and a heartbeat.

Hell you don't even have to deal with them directly with internet sales, that's company wide. If corporate cared, that wouldn't exist. It's not a special version, it's just the high end of a mass produced common truck.

With the second gen it made more sense to buy the off road and purchase the pro mods I liked. The grill, paint matched surround, headlights and wheels. I knew I was going to get rid of the suspension. I saved myself the time for waiting on a pro to become available. in 2015 the pro and the off road were essential the same. 2020 the pro and the off road are pretty different leather for me wasn’t even an option unless I went with a limited or sport. If I was in the market today for a taco I would probably wait and spend the money on the pro and just try and sell the OEM suspension. Wouldn’t make sense to put the pro badges on my taco but ascetically speaking the pro in the 2nd gen looked better with some of their parts.

I might be mistaken but weren’t the bronze wheels that came on the Baja slightly protected for a while? I remember reading something about vin numbers or something.

Don't know about those, but if they did, shows that they did care to protect certain limited packages at some point and don't now.

If Toyota didn’t care, it wouldn’t even make TRD Pro accessories available.

I've seen some dealerships demanding a VIN from a purchased Pro to order the parts. This was the case for several of my past sports cars too. Never quite understood why, if someone has the money to pay for the part why does it matter.

It’s bizarre that a public company is actually preventing sales and profit ... on purpose!!

Manufacturers are trying the protect the exclusivity and future value for its customers. In Toyota’s case it’s the TRD Pro Model. Toyota is rumored to produce only 5k Pros out of the 1/4 million Tacoma’s that were manufactured last year (2% of total Tacoma production).

Certain accessories being available doesn't hurt the value of your truck. Toyota has gone all in on some of them being just optional accessories you can purchase without even going through having to look for the Pro part number. Things like the grille and shift knob are listed as optional accessories along side floormats, bed divider, and emblem overlays. They aren't protected in the slightest and offered up by the sales guys selling other packages. It's money to be made and they want to make it. I mean look at you, you have 2020 stuff on your 2019, do you feel bad about "false advertising." Same s**t, different category there. Everyone draws the line at a different point it seems.

Very nice!!! Did you paint the skid plate black yourself? - Also do you have pics of your truck from the side?

I tried to order 17" 4Runner TRD Pro wheels directly through Toyota, they asked for my VIN then denied my order stating that they "do not support the modification of vehicles." Ended up getting them at the dealership no issues

I ordered mine from a Toyota dealership online and had them shipped to me; sometimes the things they do don't make much sense (my 2-cents).
