Anybody know of a reason the serpentine belt would pop off in a parking lot without the engine running?

Currently stuck in a parking lot in the pissing rain trying to get it back on and am not having any luck. Truck was fine on the drive over, went to back out of my parking spot and noticed I didn’t have steering or brakes. Thought a fuse blew and then saw the belt was loose.

Tensioner broken, or no spring tension when rotating belt tension pulley?

I would suspect a bad tensioner that had a little "kick back" when you turned the truck off.

That’s what I was thinking as well. Hard to believe with only 6500 miles on the truck

Could be the crank pulley. My crank pulley started separating and was causing my belt to jump off

Like others have said, prob a weak/broken tensioner or maybe a pulley is skewed. I have seen belts that have been knocked off by driving through really deep puddles/water or snow too....

there is a lot of water on the road, but I haven’t driven through anything I would consider even remotely deep. And with the skid plate there isn’t a lot of area for anything to get up in there and dislodge it.

Fortunately found the issue. Nothing mechanical. Instead a rat decided he wanted to scalp himself with the belt. Damn thing had me second guessing my decision to buy this truck.

the rat has been thrown in the creek. But here’s one. I’ll post pictures of the blood in the skid plate and hair on the belt in the morning. 367F40A8-4FB5-4476-A2BF-7511F2766F5E.jpg

By the looks of that mouse, his engine is already defending itself.

Truck is all put back together. All systems functioning as they should. You can see the blood and hair in the pictures if you look closely.
