    That looks great. I like the design the way it is. Especially the front edge. Don't ruin it with hoopties.

    I would suggest gussenting the winch box some. Looks like 3/16ths.

    Yeah I'm gonna take advantage of the plasma table at work at cut a wrap around plate for back there. It's pretty stout the way it's folded internally but I see two areas that need a bit of beefing. It is 1/4 under the winch plate but I want to tie it to the back.

    I like this idea. Would hate to have the redhead tweak it when you have yo yank on her.

    Seriously, we reinforced the whole winch platform on mine. It was vulnerable at straight 3/16" so now it 3/8". :D No wonder she's so fucking heavy

    Has your idle gotten better? I believe it takes a bit for the ecu to realize that something has changed with the airflow.

    I've read that too. I suppose there is probably something to the idea that the ecu 'learns' when changes are made. Especially when the battery power is removed for a while.

    Unfortunately, if mine is still learning, I see no evidence of it. After cleaning the IAC, I did notice the idle was about 300 rpm higher that before I took it apart. It has since come down a bit, probably back to near where it was before cleaning, ~1500-1600.

    Not sure how much time or driving around it takes for the ecu to re-learn. I've put a couple of hundred miles on it, some driving around on the weekends and out on the highway a couple of times. Hasn't changed anything. The idle is still way high. It looks to me like that little 'door' that controls airflow at idle is frozen in place. If it is remaining open too much, that kind of explains the high idle.

    There is hope tho. I just received a care package from Squeaky Brett that includes a spare throttle body and and IAC valve he had. At first glance, everything is a little cleaner than mine was so I'm going to install it as is to see what all changes and go from there.

    It was starting to act up a bit on the last trip with odd idle behavior. And it was obviously dirty. Then, when the motor was out on thee hoist, I tried to clean the throttle body without removing it. If you've seen timmahs video on this, you'll know that I likely flushed grime down into the IAC valve when I did this. :oops:

    If I remember right there is no code associated with this on Mike's truck. Which is what's made it a head scratcher. I figured it was the tps as well.

    I am also pretty sure that when he first took it apart he said the valve was stuck open before he cleaned it. If true, then he knows what is wrong.

    There is/was a code after we reinstalled the motor. It was for the IAC. P0505 IIRC

    The was no codes thrown prior when out on our adventure.

    I have a 'free' throttle body and IAC from Brett to play with. And we'll go from there. Only wallet involvement is for new gaskets.

    yeah I couldn't remember that exactly. I remember it being odd and there not being codes in CO. Funny how basically an ECU reset brought on a code.

    I'm pretty sure there was a problem prior to me attempting to clean the TB. But the attempt at cleaning it aggravated the issue because when you spray cleaner into the TB opening when the TB is mounted on the motor, the crud that gets dislodged by the spray drains down into the IAC valve.

    It is a questionable design to have the IAC valve opening below the TB opening where it can catch all of the crud.

    It's less Tacoma and more mod
    I thought the same, my LC has it on the side and there's a process for resetting it. No matter what it relearns on its own every 10 starts though.

    Also, anyone here have any objections beyond price to powdercoating a bumper. Have a buddy that will do it for 150, seems worth it. I can't really spray paint right now anyway because of temperature

    A side mount makes a lot more sense to me.

    I am a fan of powder coating bumpers. And 150$ is a great price.

    IMO, PC is a lot more durable and offers better protection from rust long term. My front bumper is PC'd and it is still in pretty good shape considering all that is has gone thru. I'm thinking it is over 9 years old now. If I hadn't been in the middle of Wyoming and had to protect it getting home, I would have powder coated the rear bumper too.

    FWIW, no matter how good of a job you do with prep, prime and paint, rust issues will creep in. I am starting to see it on the rear. The rear has held up well for paint, 6 years now, but not as good as the front.
