I suppose, I don't really know. I know Tesla's don't have transmissions, though. Unless you count one gear, that is.
I'd imagine, but have not bothered to confirm, most common parts are replaceable.
Wouldn't worry about it, though. Plenty of ICE machines going to be on the roads in most gearheads' lifetime as it is.

Oh man, it is so true. Working your ass off and getting your hands dirty still gets you somewhere these days though and pays off very well. I’m 28 and it’s worked for me so far.

A potentiometer, or basically the volume knob on your radio.

So like a foot operated speed control on a wood lathe. I would perform like an old school electromagnet. Pretty basic.

Yup, exactly. Pretty reliable compared to ICE honestly.

Regen braking actually extends the life of the brakes... Sometimes to the life of the vehicle.

A simple Google search would show your claim is false.

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...LEAM&usg=AOvVaw3O5FEeyASE-lLqLzvrw_1A&ampcf=1

TLDR: The bottom line, though, it quite clear. If you buy an electric vehicle rather than a gasoline-powered one, you are probably going to save a lot of money during the time you own it. You don’t need to be a member of the Sierra Club to see the appeal of going electric.

Changes do take time, solar technology is growing, wind turbines keep going up, don't forget the companies developing alternatives to wind & solar. The number of alternative energy plants will continue to be built.

If I had the space & money I would setup a way to run everything in the house.

(Inverter, Battery grid, wind & solar charging systems, grid backup + generator ....(pretty much like a small yacht))

Tesla recently changed the recommended maintenance interval for their vehicles. It now reads as follows:

    • Cabin Air Filter Your Tesla is equipped with an air filter that prevents pollen, industrial fallout, road dust and other particles from entering through the vents. Tesla recommends replacing your cabin air filter every 2 years.
    • High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) Filter If your Tesla is equipped with a HEPA filter, Tesla recommends replacing it every 3 years.
    • Tire Rotation, Balance and Wheel Alignment Tesla recommends checking your tires every 10,000-12,000 miles for rotating, balancing and aligning needs. Aggressive driving can lead to premature tire wear and may require more frequent tire service. Unbalanced and misaligned wheels affect handling, tire life and steering components. Refer to tire manufacturer’s owner manuals and warranty documentation for additional details.
    • Brake Fluid Test Tesla recommends testing brake fluid for contamination every 2 years and replacing as needed.
    • Air Conditioning Service An air conditioning service replaces the desiccant to help the longevity and efficiency of the air conditioning system. Tesla recommends an air conditioning service every 2 years for Model S, every 4 years for Model X and every 6 years for Model 3.
    • Winter Care Tesla recommends cleaning and lubricating all brake calipers every 12 months or 12,500 mi for cars in cold weather regions.

I checked into doing my whole house on solar. It would take 14 years to make it to break even and the at 15 years is the recommended time to start replacing the equipment. I just didn’t make since to me. Maybe in 10 years it will be economically feasible.

Off topic I know but my last 2 Rams had that dial shifter. At first I hated it but I have to tell you, you really do start to like it and the space it saves the center console. I don’t miss it so to speak but if I had a choice in the Tacoma, yeah, I’d go dial and have more center space.

I got into this as well, I figured I would be a pretty good candidate for solar. Daily usage is pretty low at around 5-6kWh most of the year and up to 7-8 January and February. My bill runs around $50-70 monthly.

They just straight up told me I don’t use enough power to make it worthwhile and it would cost significantly more to pay for the system then it would for me to keep buying power.

I think most forget what it takes to manufacture the batteries. Wouldn’t surprise me if batteries are “dirtier” than gas.

And that's a significant amount of range loss in my opinion. It should be zero percent, or very small if we are trying to compete with ICE. In 300k miles, a gasoline Tacoma will have the same range it did when brand new.

Also don't forget, using simple things like the cabin heater can sap nearly 40% of your range in cold weather.

EVs have a long way to go IMO. I'd like to see ranges upwards of 400-500 miles on even the lowest cost vehicles to allow for some buffer when using things like AC/heat/etc, batteries that last at least 15 years (and degrading only very little), and prices that are more inline with ICE.

Something I forgot about Tesla, that air filter system, plus the lack of needing an air intake for the engine, makes them super useful for wildfire areas. Filters all the smoke from entering the cabin and doesn't shut down where flames would steal the O2 from ICE vehicles. I guess they have a "bio warfare" mode or something like that, which minimizes air circulation with external air outside of going through the advanced filters. That's pretty damn cool.

I’m not sure what I use but it’s about $200 a month and it still wasn’t worth it for me.

You would think that every bit helps though. It might not help a lot but everyone should be doing their part. A couple pages back there was a post regarding solar panels potentially charging batteries until night and providing off-hour charging for cheaper than average rates, that's an alternative to fossil fuels and CO2. You can't just give up and say "Big corporations are still spewing pollutants" because often times change happens with the little guys first and moves up the rungs from there.

Besides the cold, towing sucks the life out of batteries, given the great torque, range will take a major hit...
