hah, thanks! Yeah, we're in RI so fortunately it's not that bad. It is incredibly different only 90 minutes south down here in RI compared to NH/Maine. Significantly warmer, significantly less snow, etc. For us it really is just the weather though. We are day time outdoors type, not the city nightlife type of people. We are not skiers, and we hate the cold, etc. Most friends have already also left and we're already far away from them down in RI anyway.

I don't mind the humidity actually. I love the hot, sticky weather. I have never complained about the heat and humidity. Dry is nicer, I'll agree. Lack of rust is also a nice side effect.

your body acclimates too, just like we do to the cold in the winter. my parents moved to charlotte a couple years ago since they liked visiting me, and now they complain when it's below 60 degrees haha

Yeah, for sure - that's why I was able to handle Maine average 10 degrees over February in a hoodie, but now anything below 40 needs a jacket :p

I'll try to convince the wife on taking a trip southwest for a few days to check it out! :)

also to add, the daylight hours--huge bonus! Up north we have nice, long summer days (sunset 8:30, 9PM) which is fantastic, but by 7:30, 8 I'm inside anyway. Winter is brutal - sunset 4:15 :( southern US doesn't swing as much, shorter days in the summer but longer days in the winters.

same as working, I much more value having full afternoons all week and work normal Friday's than I do working 4/10 and giving up 4 afternoons for one extra day? No thanks. I'd much rather have the even, full winter daylight time than I would the longer summer nights.

How are jobs out that way? I've been wanting to check out AZ for a long time. I want out of the cold.

I was recently looking into Florida, supposedly cost of living was lower. Housing was cheaper, but things like car insurance wasn't cheaper, utilities actually seemed higher.

Utilities as an effect of the added air conditioner need maybe?

I know water is. My ex was paying about $140 per quarter in Worcester to paying that per month in Florida.

My wife and I moved there in 1981, bought a house in Scottsdale.
We worked there for five years had a son born there, I know the hospital was on Bell Ave, Paradise Valley?
We Lived near Pima Rd and Cactus Rd.
On the East side of Pima was basically nothing and we'd go 4 wheeling in our Ford Bronco II.
I almost rolled it once. I looked at that area today and it is very occupied.
What was once a two lane road is now a Freeway.
She grew up in MN and I in MA, after 5 years of the just the brown desert and the daily summer temps over 95, we were done.
I got an offer for my talents back in NE and we took it.

You may love it but it was not for us.

    Edit;
I could not drink water from the sink, it was awful, which pissed me off even more.

When I went, I really, really liked the Telluride. I know that Kia doesn't have the reliability ratings other makers have and I've heard many, many stories about poor dealer experience, but they really hit it out of the park with that one for me.

The Juke I had as a rental was probably the second worst car behind my Mom's 1991 Escort Wagon as the worst car I've had the displeasure of driving. The shame is I love 90's Nissan. I wanted an 89-94 Maxima SE SO bad in high school. My close friend had a Stanza that he did most of the SE appearance stuff on, Maxima cluster, etc, etc. It had nearly 230,000 miles on it and was in impeccable shape for it's age. I still want a Z32 and my mom had a 1998 Pathfinder SE I still wish she let me buy from her when she traded it in. Then she had a Rogue for awhile and that was a terribly boring car. CVT all the things doesn't really work out all that well.

The Juke is the worst thing I have ever seen. To each their own in buying and owning whatever car you want, unless it's a Juke, in which case I hate you :)

So far, the most miserable POS i’ve ever had the pleasure of driving is the PT Cruiser, and that includes an old beat up Ford Escort I had to drive as a company car in college. The PT had no redeeming qualities. It was gutless, ergonomically retarded, terrible to look at and cheaply built.

In general it's almost impossible to get an above-average review in my place. Lately though..well, I've applied in my unit a few times for management roles and it seems the leaders who go the nepotism route seem to get the final say. About 2 months ago I went for a lateral move, and since then it just seems like I'm being nitpicked and micromanaged.

I do agree a good manager should want to develop an employee trying to grow, or if they're happy where they are that's fine too. An old leader about 15 years ago was great, they don't make em like her anymore. Salty old English broad..but that woman played no favorites and took nobody's shit. I still recall a quality manager attending our team meeting and trying to BS us..my boss looked at her and said "you know that's bullshit and if you want to believe it that's one thing but you will not lie to my team right in front of me!" Heehee..only reason I left her was because she was retiring anyway, I didn't love the phone calls in that unit but she made it worth it.

Please expand. Missing where you were, or not liking where you are?

Here, it's both quantity of electricity used (A/C) as well as cost of electricity. The price per kWh is about the same, but the utility companies have a bunch of surcharges that run up the bill. They basically bought off the legislature and got "protection" against solar cutting into their profits. Somewhat offset by lack of oil/gas heating bills in winter. So far, only 2 nights have been cold enough for the heat to kick on.

Water is a bit more expensive, and the quality sucks, but nowadays everyone has a a filter/softener unit in the house so it's fine as long as you're not drinking from the garden hose.

The area is growing like crazy, but for the most part they have the space to deal with it. When I first came out here the only freeways were the I-10 and I-17. Now there's the 51, the 101, 202, and 303 loops and you can get around much quicker than when you had to take surface streets. With the rapid growth and companies locating here for the favorable cost of living, there are plenty of jobs, but not necessarily in every field. Easy enough to look at the major on-line job listing sites to get a sense for what's available. And where you work would largely dictate where you would look to live. You really wouldn't want to commute across the valley every day. Not that traffic is terrible, just that it's like 30 miles from one side of the valley to the other. There are nice neighborhoods all over, so if you work in the South Valley, live in the South Valley. People here bitch about the traffic, but rush hour on the freeways here is like a Saturday afternoon on I-95.

Went to the zoo today and walked around in the sun for a few hours (in shorts and a tee). Saw a single cloud around 2 o'clock. The TV weather people here would call it a "partly cloudy" day.

Omg the Aztek. When Survivor had that as a prize and they "camped" in it I was like "What the hell is that car ?" I can't remember the last time I saw one of those on the road they must've all just dried up and disappeared.

Yikes, that's a tall order! I've only driven the PT out of those so I can only rank the others based on looks. Out of those 3, I'd put the PT Loser at the bottom, then the Aztec and, as much as it pains me to say it, the Juke would be the best...
