It’s ridiculous because the dump is 4 miles away and it’s $14.80 a ton, but they ran that little side business of Facebook hauling trash for people. There’s piles of roofing. Hell there’s a pile of about 40’ busted out curb and gutter that got dumped up there this summer. There isn’t a city curb within 20 miles of up there. I couldn’t imagine a contractor driving his dump trailer way the hell up there to just to ditch some curbs.

Here’s a crazy idea. Seems like a lot of you guys like going up there. Maybe get a big group together and haul the scrap metal away to the recyclers and maybe have a big bomb fire and burn all the garbage right there on the spot. (Safely). Maybe get together with law enforcement and let them know what’s up. See if they have any suggestions. Maybe someone could set a couple trail cams and catch the jerk offs that have been dumping the garbage. Just a thought. Place looks terrible. Sucks cause it looks like people could have some fun up there.

Maybe if you email the city they might be able to sponsor an event to pay for any of the cost to take the trash to the dump, since labor will be free. Good visibility for the 4x4 community.

FWIW we did that a few times up at Reiter but it still ended up getting closed and was re opened a few years later with an 8th of the usable land.

Darrington has a free trash/ if you can haul it it’s free dump day and people were cleaning it up. I know a group of guys from the Quad/motorcycle community that hauled 3 dump trailers of shit outta there but it just kept coming. Anyways I won’t be meeting anyone at the bottom at 9:00am Saturday for a little impromptu trail run. Fucken sucks Barker Lk Hwy will be next the dumping and crack heads have moved up there this winter and there’s already burned out trailers and trash right down low on the black top now after the snow pushes them down. DNR did a land swap with the timber company and opened a huge area to the public and these pieces of shit moved in. I went up in the first snow and saw where the ground was bare in 5-6 spots and tracks leading out down hill. Probably explained all the people I saw living in cars on the shoulder of the road. I went up there during modern firearm season for deer and actually got flagged down by a guy that had the balls yo ask me if I would drag his motor home up there because he was outta gas. I reported his ass to the Sheriff. He was recently arrested for trespassing for squatting and running an extension cord into a neighboring property. The let him out in three days. Until the Prosecutor puts some teeth in there punishment it will continue.

Sorry for ranting a little I’m pissed off. I moved up here to enjoy the outdoors and be the woods. Not to be confined into only driving black top roads and paying $30 a night to camp 10 miles up the road because everything gated or dug up.

So does this put the kibosh on making a trash run that a few of you were mentioning?

Regardless of location, I’m more than happy to help with any future cleanup efforts.

The DNR has generally been willing to allow clean ups in the past. We used to do some for cleaning up shooting areas. Generally they were rather receptive of it and would provide access to a 40 yard (or least a regular) dumpster but no real man power. Not sure how it being a gated closed area would effect things but Im sure they would open it up for you.

If the State and community would stop feeding the rats they would either die or move to another food source.

Counterpoint: if our tax money went to the people that need it instead of enabling mega corporations to exploit their workers, people wouldnt be living in cars in the woods and would have mental health and drug addiction support.

I've wondered if something like this would work...

If they want help, make them work for it.

Get them to go clean up some trash, one bag of trash = a warm place to sleep and some food?
Help cook and serve at the soup kitchen = free meal and a shower?

I have seen cities essentially employing the homeless or jobless to do construction or clean up the city in exchange for a living wage or a place to live. I'll try to dig up where I heard that

Little Rock, Arkansas has a program currently going. I know San Diego also had one like 2-3 years ago but Im not sure if it is still going. Both paid pretty well...like $10 an hour.

If i remember right the San Diego one required the homeless staying in a city tent shelter (or something like it) to do it for like 10-20 hours a week
