I have the relentless hi-lift bed rail mounts. They work for me, not sure if they are the best or not though.

Random ass question. I'm in RI, already asked about moving to Charleston/SC area.

Has anyone moved....to/from Charleston and Phoenix/Tucson/Southwest area? We have to make the trek to both to check them out, wondering if anyone's done the move either way and can shed some light.

Commute, traffic, overall weather, cost of living, medical
    • Cyclist infrastructure/culture - I'd like to ride to work if possible. Not if the roads are jacked up and dangerous.
    • Dog culture - dog parks, dog-friendly restaurant patios, etc.

I used to live in Tucson, my family moved stuff to storage in PA before we went overseas. That's a long drive, hauling a ton of stuff ourselves. @Daria could speak more for AZ today, I was just a lad while I was out there 20+ yrs ago.

I lived in Columbia and Greenville, SC from 2010-2017. I moved to Phoenix in 2017. I spent a lot of time in Charleston, would never move there, COL too high and coastal humidity, hard pass. I loved Greenville. Super progressive in comparison to Columbia. Lots of dog friendly areas. Cooler weather because elevation. Cycling for days in the upstate. Hiking and whatnot too.

Phoenix, lots of canal paths for biking. Where you may get shanked by a hobo like one TWer... lots of good mountain biking if you’re into that. Phoenix traffic is comparable to Charleston traffic. I don’t care for many of the dog parks here. My dog rips open her paw pads far too often and people aren’t really watching their dogs. I asked one dude to stop throwing the ball for my dog because she has a heart condition so he continued to throw it even further to be a dick.

Southern hospitality is what I miss most about SC. You won’t find that in Phoenix.

One thing I remember about SC, I felt comfortable leaving my dog in the truck while running into the grocery store. I wouldn’t do that anywhere in AZ.

Hot damn, you covered all my bases! Good to know, we like the coastal heat and humidity. COL is something to consider, but we're also willing to pay more for a place we like more. COL is low in the middle of nowhere with 5 hour trips to grocery stores and there's more trees than people, but you need to strike a balance between COL and the benefits of the area.

I'll keep all this in mind when we visit, thank you!

Greenville isn’t country. Hours from Asheville, Atlanta, and Charlotte. Hours from the coast. I used to run down to Charleston often from Greenville.

Look up COL info on the following in Charleston area: Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, James Island, and Summerville. It’s an interesting mix. The traffic in Charleston 3-6 years ago was terrible and it’s likely increasing with the population growth. Home prices are about double in Charleston vs Greenville. I had a friend that had a monthly HOA fee near Mt Pleasant that was larger than my rent in Columbia/Greenville. Nope nope nope.

    Yeah. Don’t move there.

    Gross.

I hate admitting that I’ve been there more than once.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
Well of course in Mt. P. That's Richie Rich country there. My house just north of GC was $190k and HOA fees are $375 a year. The reasonable places around here are Summerville, Goose Creek, Moncks Corner, etc. Anything really outside of North Charleston is decent on price and less issues than North Charleston too.

It was an example. I don’t know how fancy question asker is. His woman may be a fancy lady. Another friend in Jedburg had an HOA fee that was high IMO. And Jedburg is far from fancy.

That's probably b/c the Jedburg area is growing now due to the Volvo plant. Starting to expand further up I-26 than Summerville like it used to be. Anything along the coast will be high...Sullivan's Island, Mt. P, James Island, etc.
