Jenn, random question...

Is emissions testing or any type of vehicle inspection required anywhere in Idaho? I seem to remember reading somewhere that emissions testing is required in more populated areas (Boise?).

Ada county you're required to get emissions tests every year or two years depending on where you get it done. Some counties I believe you don't have to like canyon county....

I'm jealous! Safety inspection in Pennsylvania I agree with because they keep shitboxes off the road and my truck has never failed one (plus most dealers and garages will waive the safety inspection fee). What grinds my gears is that the emissions test costs like $50-$60, and pretty much if your vehicle doesn't have a check engine light on it will pass; Why should I have to pay a mechanic the price of a new PlayStation game to tell me what I already know (that my truck is in perfect condition)?

 

Emissions are under $20 and where I go it's good for 2 years... and there's ways to get around and cheat the tests so it's not like it keeps the shit boxes off the roads.

 

Pennsylvania is every year, and if the person doing the inspection decides they don't like you for whatever reason, they'll fail you for certain things while letting other people pass for the same things...

Pennsylvania has this ridiculous law where fog lights cannot be turned on at the same time as high-beams, so all vehicles must have a bypass switch that deactivate the fog lights when the brights are on. The bureaucrat at the Toyota dealer told me that if the state troopers weren't conducting an inspection of the inspection station they'd be able to look the other way on "illegally wired fog lights" but if they got a surprise inspection, they'd have to fail my immaculate and well-maintained truck on the spot! Bastards...

Considering how many trucks I see driving around at night with those LED bars illuminated, I think it's utter nonsense that I have to go through the trouble of wiring my fog lights so they won't turn on when the brights are on!

 

Open a case with Corporate. Get the employer it lean on ‘em a bit. They got pull.

 

I refuse to deal with a stealership again unless my frame rots out! Anything I can't do myself is done by my trusted mechanic Pete!

 

Wow that's crazy, I don't know of any rules like that here but I'm sure we have weird ones here too. That would suck for me, I literally can't see anything at night without my fog lights cause my headlights are so bad lol. It's still bad with them but my morimotos are the only reason I even see where I'm going at all!!

Your truck probably has them from the factory; @Taco critter lives fairly close to me and is going to help me install them in such a way that they don't violate the motor vehicle code in PA...

 

Thank God I figured out how to install my morimotos or I would not see where the hell I'm going hahaha. Hopefully someday I'll get some new headlights.

 

I've saved hundreds (probably thousands) on doing work to my truck over the years because I have a technically-inclined neighbor who is all too willing to get his hands dirty! He's helped me install an entire sound system, a backup camera, and a new pair of headlights!
