So, does anyone know where to buy used catalytic converters? Since some asshole stole catalytic converter off my Prius. I have called few places and they all tell me I can not buy used catalytic converter in California and need to order brand new one from stealership. Stealership wants more money for cat that car is worth lol. Anyone knows any way to get hold of cheap cat? I guess its time to take a trip to Nevada perhaps.

Did you file a police report and make an insurance claim? This is usually how the prius units are replaced.

I did file a police report, but I don't have full coverage since this car is worth less than 2K. So, I don't think insurance will cover it.

Called them yesterday and they told me they can't help me. Told me I shouldn't waste my time and go straight to stealership lol.

That is what I am thinking. Taking a drive to Nevada and pulling it off from a junk yard.

Yep, can confirm as well. Illegal in CA to sell a used CAT. Did you check Magnaflow for a CARB Certified/CA Legal solution? Doubt they have it but worth checking. I have an 06 Camry with 286k miles on it. Workhorse and still going strong. CAT is on its way out though and nothing available but the OE (which I refuse to drop $1800 on).

Probably already checked but just in case you didn't -

Thanks! They don't have it for Prius. CARB doesn't allow them. ONLY way to get a catalytic converter is through stealership. Nevada keeps looking better and better I am telling you.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
I am assuming you no longer had full coverage on it? If you did... might be able to file a claim and only pay 500 of the full price?

I don't have full coverage on this car. It is a salvage title and has close to 200K. Car is worth less than $1500, but I would like to keep it because it still runs good and has good gas mileage.

I lucked out with the wife's daily. CAT failed in that one and fortunately Magnaflow did have one available. Ordered from Amazon, showed up 2 days later, installed it and passed smog. I just need to face reality and realize these two daily drivers we have (her's is an 02 Lancer lol) need to be replaced. Good luck with the Prius - hope it works out. See so many on CL these days with 'only missing the catalytic converter'... damn thieves

I know what you mean. I would hate to replace this car because Toyota installed new hybrid battery pack free of charge less than 50K miles ago. Car still runs good and has no issues what so ever. It was my daily driver. I don't want another payment since I just got done paying for the truck. That is why I am thinking about getting cat for this car.

I’m sure you can get one in Nevada. Just don’t waste your time with pick n pull. Smaller auto wreckers will though.

@K_Sandhu Just be aware if the Cat doesn't have a CARB number the smog places are supposed to fail it.

Maybe there are smog places that don't look too close, dunno.

Have you called some local exhaust places? I'm sure you're not the first to have this issue and maybe they have solution besides the Toyota dealer.

Good luck! And I just bought a pre-obdII CalCat from Walker Exhaust for $100. Maybe check them out.

No one gets under the hood let alone under the car to check cat lol. They just stick that thingi in the tail pipe or connect the obd.
I have called local guys and everyone is saying I will have to go to stealership.
