    getting yourself stuck in mud;
    does it suck to set up a moveable winch? yes
    will you get out? probably yes

    you do things that are unconventional (which is not always a bad thing)

    next you're gonna tell us to mount a front bumper on the rear to house this said winch
    :bananadead:
    and we know you won't do it, because you'll drive through it. or atleast keep going until you destroy your tires in a burn out
    :burnrubber:

    @llamasmurf im not arguing the versatility of being able to put the winch on front and rear

    What we are saying is the way you’re intending to mount the winch in the front by putting an additional 12” of leverage on a known weak point of our trucks could be problematic

    I do not want to see you ruin your frame, but if thats the path you choose to go down, you need to be prepared for it

    this is what mine looks like, except totally broken off...

    On another note, I was going to hook up my winch last night after rotating my driveshaft x diff 180 degrees (replaced u joint and didn't mark shaft for alignment (d'oh!)). Noticed my DS centre support is toast - lots of play and cracked... and I blew the left front axle seal. $46 order list from RockAuto due Friday.

    that was me talking about the extra stress. Just making people aware of the weakness of our front ends.

    yes carrying around a heavy bumper does cause extra stress but it’s a bit different than a 6-12” lever pulling the truck sideways. Front pulls sure but that wasn’t what I was talking about.

    you could potentially straighten a pull with snatch blocks but how many are you going to bring and are you going to have enough anchors?

    Again just something to consider. Like you said the additional weight of a bumper may not suit others and the extra weight causing wear. However, pros and cons to everything. Considerations for every option. Was simply making sure that the idea of a lever with a winch cradle wasn’t forgotten. Just like I was made aware of the gusseting and reinforcing to do when I got my bumper years ago.

    Something to consider for anyone putting a winch (what ever method)

    I won't go quite that beefy, but definitely in that direction with extra plating.

    Ahhh, I missed that part. Yup, the extra leverage one a side pull would be very significant.

    I guessss, the money saved could pay for a few extra snatch blocks and tree savers...but still screwed in a treeless enviornment.

    Lovin the 35” spare tire land anchor.

    Thanks guys for keeping this all informative, and not the usual internet pissin’ match. Learning from those who use, break, fix and unstuck is awesome.

    My needs will be better defined after the following;
    A: more playing
    B: more getting stuck
    C: more getting unstuck

    this is why i like this group so much :cookiemonster:
    we can be CUNTs, but we can also bring to light alternative views, information, workarounds, and resources.

    Like learning about winching up a tree to fix a tire, that shit is genius.

    and i'm not avoiding that the 12" lever and its forces will not exist, by god damned it will exist and the frame will pay for it. Heck it doesn't even need to be by winching sideways that'll mess something up.

    If your front is bouncing around while traveling some non maintained dirt roads, or if you drop your front end crawling over an edge to go downhill and you land on your frame or something. Basically any small up and down force that the suspension doesn't absorb will be magnified (depending on the length of the leaver, the weight of the winch and cradle) which will cause stress, in the form of torque, on bolts/ body/ frame/ everything else and might cause microfractures (or even to the point of work hardening) over a long enough time, and that's when the failure will happen.

    TLDR: PHYSICS

    My relentless came with similar ones to the c4. I like how it ties it further back on the frame. I’ll be removing my bumper this summer to beef up everything on the stock frame. See how she goes.
