The LED SAE J583 Fog Pod & Fog Light Review

Some people who bought the Sports are saying they’re plenty bright so either way you probably can’t go wrong. For me, I’ll be going with the Pros because I figure buy once, cry once. I don’t want to be wondering the whole time if I’m missing out on better visibility by buying the Sports. I’m just waiting for the 05-11 brackets to come out and then I’ll be buying some Pros!

Did you see the output charts in the original thread? Morimotos rank very poorly in output intensity, you’d be better off with the OEM Toyota LEDs which are higher output and cost less and likely better quality. Diode Dynamics fogs are on the other end of the output spectrum, the sports I tested yesterday are among the highest, they are not in the same league at all.

Also, keep in mind that the SS3 pros get warm, even hot during operation. This helps with clearing snow from the lens.

 

that is a huge plus as well! I’ve never enjoyed an amazing pair of fogs during winter. Stoked.

 

I have researched several Toyota OEM LED fogs... here is what I bought last year prior to the SS3 (yes, for a 4runner, but I think they may be used on Tundra's too) - MUCH better than the 2016 stock fog's! My question is, are these the same that you mention? Or similar? I've seen links in this thread for a different Toyota light and wonder how the ones listed below compare.

These are the 2019 4runner OEM led;

Pretty comparable in peak output to the Toyota fogs I was referring covered in post #727:

The reflector fogs have a slightly taller pattern and not quite as wide vs the projector style fogs with a gradient pattern that is higher in peak intensity toward the top and fades lower in the pattern. The projector style is a shorter wider pattern with a sharper cut off.

Thanks for sharing, no fitment on the angled ones though. If anyone has any genius engineering ideas for how to make them clip on the angled lights, I'm all ears!

Hopefully the replacement lenses will be next to be released. Hint hint @Diode Dynamics

 

That one would be tough. Could use some kind of clip(s) that put tension inside the housings instead of around the outside? The tough thing is that these are meant to fit inside other bezels on the bumper, so there's no easy way to clip around the outside like the other covers.

 

I have searched but i Haven't found the answer I'm looking for.. for the rigid d series.. with the deusch connector..does that connect directly to our factory fog wiring? Or do we have to spice into the wires?.. I was looking for a plug in play if all possible

 

You need an H11 to Deusch adapter and it will be plug an play. Caliraised sells inexpensive ones below.

So @crashnburn80 , Is Diode Dynamics the new standard?

 

I've had both in amber/select yello, and much prefer the Diode Dynamics lights. Much wider and brighter beam.

 

Been running the DD amber Sports now for a few weeks and loving them. They survived the snow just fine so far. @crashnburn80 good recommendation on these. They rock!
