My sister raises meat and egg laying chickens. The key is to send them off to someone. Its really hell to try to pluck them.
If you can find someone who will slaughter, pluck, and prep them for you for a few bucks a bird thats the way to do it.

If I do birds I typically just skin them.

My dad takes his laying chickens to the Amish when they’re done laying and gets them processed that way. Not exactly cost effective when you need so much food. However you do know where they came from.

Im building a chicken coop in the spring so we can at least have eggs and cut that cost out of the grocery bill.

I've heard the Amish route is good too.

My friend at work raises meat chickens and he built a contraption that de-feathers them quick. It's like a bucket with these rubber flap things inside that spin. He showed me a video and it was a minute or two in there and the bird came out clean and ready to butcher. It was cool.

Take your time and get it to your lap first. Then take a big breath and extend up and go. Start it out as high on chest as possible because it's gonna slip down the whole time.

Also rubber coated gloves help a lot.

Orrrrrrr if you can, get it up on your shoulder and carry it there lol way faster and easier to breathe.

Is the shoulder thing legal or is it a front only thing? The gym owner recommended some woman strongman coach thats $200 for 6 weeks to get me prepped for the comp and supplies 4 workouts a week for me to do. I definitely am taking this as seriously cause I for sure can compete as a novice.

I've never seen it not legal...

I would ask before the event just to be sure. What's her name?

    This girl

so far, I can DL 405 for reps, yoke is Easy, and the sandbags won’t be hard. I ALWAYS train strongman stuff after a workout so I’m used to being exhausted while lifting. Strength is there for my class but I need some help on the competition stuff. I wanna be a decent threat for a novice. Goal is placing in the top 1/2 for sure but I feel like I can do top 1/4.

Give her a shot. It's your first one so you got nothing to lose. I will say that you may not want to be so set on coming 1st.... Usually once you win a novice comp you can only compete open after that, so it's good to get experience in a few novice before you win, but if you win just be ready to up your game.

This comp is a good starter cause there aren't any max weight events. Usually comps will do like max log and/or max deadlift and the novice guys don't have the brute strength to hang with the more experience/trained guys.

That’s a solid point. Also @Supra TT mentioned to me that I can use straps for strong man so that deadlift will be easy since I’ve been training bare handed.

I might give her a chance. Weird having a woman coach but I do need one.

Agree. It don't matter if they've never even competed or even lift.

Do you think Bill Bellichek has ever thrown a TD? No, yet Brady takes orders from him.
